Social media- do you use it? Which ones?

I dont feel I have anything to share that anyone is interested in, basically I work, eat , sleep, immediate family time.

Also seeing other folks wonderful awesome epic vacations and other stuff they do with their cool friends and family makes me realize just how isolated and boring my life has become....even before the pandemic. I have a great life mind you, its just excruciatingly plain vanilla boring. So peering into other peoples adventures does not do me any good, SRS.

Deactivated Twitter last week after they banned the President. I was already pissed that when you tried to like his tweets they would put the warning sign up. I don't need to be told how to think.

On Parler, but it is cumbersome and now banned.

I use ********. I am a big fan.

I used to move fairly often for work and FB is, as far as I know, the best way to keep touch with people you are geographically separated from. I don't have much to say, but I do like periodically scrolling through my friends list to remind myself of people I need to check in with.

I particularly like the ******** Groups feature. I belong to quite a few. I really like my Counties unofficial Events and Happenings page and all the local yard/garage sale pages, they are a wonderful way to get to know your neighbors and neighborhood a lot better and pick up some great bargains. I belong to a page for Rat Rodders, several for Beekeepers, a couple of Ford pages, a reloading page, two forums dedicated exclusively to Jungle Fowl, a page made up almost entirely of memes about Bigfoot sightings in the area (Its parody), and several pages relating to Hiking, Fishing, and mini Tri's in my area and for reasons that I cannot fully explain I follow a page about Falconry.

I know that a lot of people have very valid grievances with FB, but I can sit down at my computer for 10 minutes and interact with other folks interested in the same stuff as me a lot easier than I can get in my car and drive to a nearby town for a get together. I have been getting my news from the same aggregator for almost 15 years so I don't see a lot of American news or political discourse on my FB timeline. I follow to an English language page relating to Kurdistan that is pretty much all politics but I have never posted to it, I only read. I also follow several pages related to Cuba that are all political, but again, I do not post. 80% of my timeline is baby, retirement, and death announcements and Cowboybiker memes. About 10% is old friends raving about Trump or Antifa or the apocalypse or something and 10% is photos of other peoples food.

I mentioned in another thread protesting is stupid, that energy should be used to host your own domains for social platforms that you want to share with others. Stop relying on platforms that now ban phrases like stop the steal (not sure wat that is) next they will ban drain the swamp.

I've moved over 20 times in the past 20 years, I've used FB to try to keep in touch. Unfortunately, even with my friends there is so much politics and hate for people who disagree with anyone else, that I'm dropping that too. Sad, really. I'd love to have a way to keep in touch with people I care about, but the politics and hatred is too much.

I do keep my LinkedIn up to date though because I've landed two jobs because of it. I seriously don't even need to use the job sites like Indeed, all you do is put your settings "open to opportunities" and recruiters find you.

I enjoy ******** for the car groups. I unfollowed all my contacts so I don't see any BS. I follow my local news source there too but basically just the car groups.

Twitter strictly for the market. That meant I followed our POTUS too as he is the best market mover ever.

IG I use as a lifting "diary" of sorts and to follow other lifters and friends ect.

I'm not super active on any of them though. Mostly lurk and read.

You don’t need FB to keep in touch, there are other ways via Internet, like email which you send pictures too.

If they didn’t waste time protesting they could have a Domain, there are cheap and free alternatives out there to get started but free isn’t private so work to build security via donations etc.

LinkedIn for professional use. FB mostly to stay in touch with family and friends that live far away. I also follow local community based pages like the local PD. I don't know the last time I posted anything on my page. Was considering signing up for Parler but we know what happened to that one.

I 100 percent agree, too many try hards commenting under the stories. However, I still think it's a great networking tool if you just use it for that. Just stay away from the stories lol.

I know; been around long enough that there was a time I hand wrote letters and mailed them across oceans!
Definitely less effective/efficient way to keep in touch but that's where I'm headed. Just can't tolerate all the crap any more.

Although a member here once called me to help her deal with some crazy stalker, the problem was she wanted me to "scare" the guy and I told her if I go there I am going to do more than scare the guy so let me know what you want.
