Yeah I started feeling massive symptom relief early this morning. My gut still feels ‘off’ there’s no real pain, just hunger cramps and gas etc.
The surgeon actually came in and said she now suspects it’s not a leaking ulcer, but that the scan showed a diverticulum and the pain/pressure, and the swelling of my stomach was due to my stomach essentially not emptying.
They removed the suction tube for now and they’re going to test and see if I start to feel any pain or nausea, and go from there.

**** man, I had a mouth ulcer a couple of weeks ago and it was extremely painful to eat food, even just day to day moving my mouth/tongue was really painful, i'd wake up at night with sharp shooting pains when i moved my tounge. I can't imagine what this must be like, It really made me appreciate my health afterwards and being able to eat without pain, it lasted around a week for me, its so easy to take health for granted, even something as small as a painful mouth ulcer can impact your daily life in a big way. Wishing you a speedy recovery brother!

Right now I’m 60 hours with no food.
The only things I’ve consumed since Thursday at 730pm are two ‘clear’ ensure drinks which are basically just 8oz of sugar...
They actually still aren’t 100% sure what the cause is yet...
I had a CT Scan, an endoscopy, tons of blood work, x-rays...
I’ll be discharged this morning thank God, just waiting for the doctor to get here. Probably slept like 4 hours since this whole thing started."When I die, I hope it's early in the morning so I don't have to go to work that day for no reason"

Thanks man.
It was probably the worst pain I’ve ever experienced and it lasted for essentially 24 hours...
Couple that with the forced starvation and lack of sleep... feels like I’m going insane here. Just wanna shower and nap and eat yogurt and cereal.. all of it.Last edited by AdamWW; 01-10-2021 at 07:11 AM.

Thanks man. I'm home now, but still baffled about a lot of what happened and what to do now. Hopefully with some follow up tests i'll get some answers
Totally demoralizing really... but for now, Im just grateful to feel closer to normal
LOL, honestly... I dunno... in the worst stage of it, that might not have sounded that bad."When I die, I hope it's early in the morning so I don't have to go to work that day for no reason"

Damn, hope it all goes well. I've had a stomach pump done before and that tube was absolute hell after about 12 hours.

Yeah, I think my tube was in for about 40 hours, I was out for a lot of it due to anesthetics, but when I woke up I told the doctors they can take it out or I would, couldn't take it anymore so they removed it. Wasn't even hooked to anything at that point, they just kind of left it for whatever reason.

As this was my first inpatient experience, it was interesting to observe the process issues in the system itself...
There’s a HUGE lack of communication, patient order updates, etc that goes on.
It really pays to be somewhat medically literate and understand what different procedures and medicines do. Had I not asked certain questions, I would have been loaded with like twice the amount of stuff they ended up giving me because I spoke up about it.
I’m just glad I have decent insurance, because even tho this is gunna cost me like $3,000 all said and done.... I cannot even imagine what the total bill is."When I die, I hope it's early in the morning so I don't have to go to work that day for no reason"

Oh man, feeling WAY better.
It took 3-4 full days back from the hospital to recover my sleep and nutritional status, but today was my first day feeling basically 100%.
In terms of what was wrong, the only thing I know is what was reflected in the original CT scan:
- Stomach distended severely with fluid/acid
- swelling at the duodenum/opening where the stomach empties
- excess swelling/bloat in my gut generally (basically waste in my intestines)
But for CAUSE... I have no idea.
The endoscopy which was done (and included biopsy) after my symptoms had improved largely showed basically normal everything. No H-Pylori, no ulcers, no inflammation of the stomach or small intestine... no signs of celiac disease...
So at this point, i'm basically stuck on a diagnosis of idiopathic (no known cause) severe stomach distention caused by acid build up, which appeared to halt gastric emptying altogether.
At a glance, it would almost appear like I had either an acute dietary reaction or stress reaction which caused my stomach to simply stop moving normally, and everything just bottle-necked.
But, since i've been home, my appetite is back to 100%, i've been eating ALL my typical stuff... and I feel totally fine.
I'm having some imaging work done in a week or so to check on my gut motility (where I swallow radioactive marshmallows or egg whites)... but man... the whole thing is just baffling."When I die, I hope it's early in the morning so I don't have to go to work that day for no reason"

Well fuk! That whole thing sounds like a downright Hellish experience. It must feel great to be able to eat and sleep normally again. With gut issues in general, it can be so hard to pin down what the cause is. I hope your imaging and scans are all clear. If they are, if I were you, I’d probably just cross my fingers and pray that chit never happens again. I certainly wouldn’t go out of my way to “find” something, if that makes sense. I was once taken to the ER because the doctor gave me an x-ray and saw that my intestines were extremely distended and bloated sometime into my ED recovery following over a year of gaining. I decided to just walk out of the hospital and go home instead. I 0% regret it four years later. I’ve always had gi issues and my anorexia made them forever worse, though they’re far better than they were at the peak of my illness. I never got any answers despite a plethora of tests, & I’m happy to leave it at that if I don’t need more barbaric tests or hospital stays as part of a wild goose chase. I wonder if maybe you’re in a similar boat & maybe your already-sensitive gi tract just needs more time to heal.

OP, how on Earth did this happen to you?!!
EDIT: Okay, so I read through the thread - sounds like your stomach wasn't "emptying" as it should, am I right? Jeez... I guess folks seem to forget that things aren't always perfect, huh? Damn... On the plus side, Earth hasn't been hit by any killer space rocks for the last few millennia, so that's interesting huh?Last edited by HannoCometh; 01-15-2021 at 08:16 AM.
