you probably wont like it if youve never played it or like similar games and are starting from new in 2020.
The items have lost all value and nobody cares anymore. Not many ppl play etc etc.
Back in my teens.. it was amazing. Id finish school or skip school, make a tea and some Poptarts and just Mf all day, scam kids for gear, duel etc etc

id wait for the new diablo 4 or whatever they are making. skip diablo 3 all together.

im back into wow heavy now though. I would have to consider it the goat now due to longevity with d2 being 2nd

Back in the day, it was. Nowadays PoE makes any Diablo look like a mobile game or worse.

It's the the best action rpg I have ever played. Amazing soundtrack and atmosphere, graphic aged semi-okay, many completely different builds, a lot of cool loot
It's still just an action rpg though. It's mostly brawling your way through hordes of enemies, the story while solid does not involve you much and there are no meaningful choices, there aren't many complex tactics involved and a lot of it consists of farming things which are trashmobs for you at that point

So yeah, if that genre sounds cool to you, you can try. If not don't.

If you want to play Diablo II, I would suggest playing either the Project Diablo II Mod or the Path of Diablo II Mod.

You will still pretty much get the authentic Diablo II experience but there are more QoL changes, skill rebalancing, etc. Not to mention it is very popular right now and a dedicated 24/7 team of moderators.

Some people play the unmodded Diablo II, I guess for more authenticity, but if you look back on some of the stuff, you probably couldn't imagine yourself playing it now. Brb a billion chaos runs to get from 98-99. Brb grind your azz off for weeks and not get a single high rune. brb having to trust somebody to mule your gear due to stash limitations or pray nobody steals your chit, game disappears or servers go to chit when trying to transfer. Trading sucked azz, brb trade bugs, often couldn't get the items you wanted. A lot of little things old D2 players just accepted because we didn't know any better and that was just the way it was. It's nostalgic looking at it now I guess but back in those days you were like "fukkkkkkkkkkkkk".

Going back to D2 I can't really play the original, but the mods are definitely worth playing with some new map content on top of what is already there in the original Diablo II

For me it’s in my top 2 or 3 greatest PC games of all time. BUT there’s probably a lot of nostalgic bias there having played it when I was a kid still.

Playing it for the first time ever now, I’m not really sure if I’d still think it’s so great. Hard to say really.
