If you were going to put 5% of your net worth into precious metals...

    ...which one would you choose?

    - Gold is at a near ATH right now.

    - Palladium & Silver have industry purposes especially in automotive parts. I'm not sure how EVs will impact the price of them though being that these vehicles don't use catalytic converters for example.

    - Platinum is used in the Medical field in other industries.

Despite the cost of Gold right now I feel like it's a better hedge play compared to the others but if you have any suggestions I'm all ears.

I bought Gold in 2011. I've had them ever since. If you look at the chart you'll see what happened there. Now they are about the price they were when I bought them if you put inflation into it.

I'd be already purchasing a large sum either way. The downside of silver is storage. I've thought about it though.

Yep - I'm thinking of it as a hedge against certain currency devaluing and to counter inflation.

Dabbled in gold back in the day, bought at 750 an oz, sold at 1550

I would have to buy huge bars to get anywhere near the same amount of silver (in terms of value)

    I wouldn't buy precious metals.

I think the safest place for money to be is in the market. Apple, Google, Amazon, Costco, Walmart , Paypal, etc. These companies aren't going to be disrupted. They aren't going anywhere. Even if their share prices dip momentarily, they will rebound in the long run. Even the S&P500 or Vanguards VGT fund would be great options to store your cash.

Aaron Clarey spoke about buying a few hundred in sliver so i'm kinda leaning towards that.

Gold miners underperformed gold in 2020. If gold continues to trend upwards, you should see miner prices close the gap.

Of course I invest in FAANG companies and others. I hold individual stocks but I'm just thinking of some diversification. I do understand the viewpoint though.

This is just me thinking instead of holding a bunch in savings I should put some in precious metals just due to currency volatity.

All in Btc Gold will be A dead asset. NASA is working on mining asteroids that contain 100 t of metals including gold plus they working on towing that asteroid to earth. Why hold an asset that in 20-30 yeats may be worth far less than it will be due to that and money going into btc instead.

Copper is the play for the rise of EV

Gold is at ATH for a reason. It looks like it is consolidating and getting ready for another move. The FED has said in no uncertain terms that they will let inflation run hot. At the same time politicians are going to fiscal spend because they no longer have a stomach for any deflationary impulses. When you keep pushing debt into the system each additional unit has less ability to generate growth beyond a certain point. And the Fed cannot let yields rise too much. That all leads to negative real yields. Gold tracks real yields.

Silver is looking bullish too though. Just own both.

If you want inflation hedges you can own companies in the commodity ecosystem. Miners, Metal companies, Agriculture companies, Oil producers. The Aussie Dollar and Canadian dollar are also popular commodity currencies.

Also in a weak dollar environment Emerging markets should perform well.

Real Estate, real assets. Any loan taken now will be inflated away.

Every now and then I'll move a % of my net worth into the most precious metal of them all -- plain ol iron in the form of a new pair of 45 lb plates.

If you look up the idea of buying precious metals on the bogleheads forum, it turns me off of the idea everytime.

Honestly, I wouldn't do it now. I was all about silver in the summer, especially when it was still under $20. Metals had a good little run, but for the most part, their performance has been underwhelming compared to tech stocks and crypto. The latter two have outperformed metals as an inflation hedge, and I wouldn't be surprised if they continue to do so. Can silver still go to $30-$40 later this year? It's very possible. But if things get to that extent it's just as possible that we'll see stock valuations rise to the point that current valuations will seem reasonable.

buy property instead, PMs are a crap investment unless you want a hedge against inflation or barter cash. That said I have a **** ton of physical silver, i bought it all below 15 so technically its doubled this year but meh. Thats not why i have it.

I'll be investing in stocks for the Vixen Media Group. The demand for their content is exponentially growing among the white middle-aged male demographic.
It was all just satire. Sorry if I offended anyone with my trolling and sickening posts. Peace and love to everyone.

Gold is a hedge play, when all else fails it is what central banks own that could be used to recapitalize the system, not cryptos (yet). Not saying cryptos are bad I own some and made some very nice gains last year, but the gold market is still magnitudes higher than say bitcoin (10 trillion vs .5 trillion). Things could change yes, but until then I'd advise owning some. Silver is more of an industrial metal (65%) so you wont see much of a price increase until mass adoption takes place, which imo seems to be going more towards cryptos.

Your too late to the game bro. Its like buying bitcoin now. U fked up.

If u dont have firearms, ammo, food/water and property at this point then ur fked.

Been had 30 oz of gold bullion/coins, 1000 oz of silver stacked, aks/ars/pistolas, ammo for each stacked. Land/food/water/tools etc. thats the true hedge.

The times we are going into, if u dont have the above then ur a useless eater whos going to die in the incoming chaos and famine
