    Starting Out

Hey guys, I am currently 258lbs 6’1 probably about 23-25% BF. I have competed in strongman and am pretty strong. I absolutely loved it and my only fitness goal was to one day compete at and maybe win Nationals. I know pretty crazy, but I am still young and natural so I have a TON of room to improve my strength and get a lot bigger. I was even willing to take the PED dive if I could achieve enough naturally to the point where I thought I might be able to actually go pro.

Anyways, I recently had a blood vessel pop in my eye no big deal but my blood pressure was checked and it was high. So far I’ve had highs of 140/94 when resting. I was then given a EKG and I have a possibly enlarged heart. I will know for sure when I go to a heart doctor and they give me an Echo. Also, one of my kidneys may be messed up cause that runs in both sides of my family.

So, basically my dreams have been flushed down the drain all in one day. I’m not even gonna get a chance to chase them. If I continue to get bigger I will be killing myself basically. I now have to lose weight.

This is the start of my weight loss journey. I’m gonna set a weight goal of about 210-225lbs. At that weight, I should have some pretty decent abs. I’m estimating my BW with 0% BF is 190-200lbs. So, shooting for 210-225lbs should put me at about 8-10% BF.

Sorry to hear about your health issues.

If you really are natural, it is extremely unlikely that you will end up at 8-10% body fat at 210-225 lbs. You are also probably more than 23-25% now but that is very hard to know without pictures.

Well from the pictures I’ve seen online of body fat estimates it looks like I’m around 25%. I have a scale thing that measures BF and it has me at 20% BF, but I figured it was a little off. We will see though, I could be wrong and could be storing more fat in my back/legs than I realize.

Thanks! I hope I can get down to where I want to be at in time for summer. It’d be nice to have the beach body for once lol.

Even if this is true (I doubt it), reality will be different from what the math above shows. Not all "fat-free mass" is muscle, so you will have to drop further than you think to reach 8-10% body fat as not all of the weight you lose will be fat (even in the case where you retain all your muscle during the cut).

I have just been through this process myself. Started at about 235 lbs and thought I would be < 15% body fat at about 180 lbs. But I was still above 20% body fat when I actually reached that weight. Generally it seems that for every 5 lbs I lose, I adjust the "goal weight" a bit more down from the original goal (so the "goal weight" keeps moving downwards...). And yeah I also used online pictures to try to estimate my body fat. I have ended up concluding that trying to estimate one's body fat % is relatively pointless, particularly for people who are above 20%.

It happens all the time, people universally underestimate how much fat they carry and overestimate how much muscle they have (there are countless examples on this forum alone).
