"A "fast food" shop from the ancient Roman city of Pompeii, which was destroyed in a volcanic eruption almost 2,000 years ago, is to open to the public - for viewings only - next year.
The food counter, known as a termopolium, would have served hot food and drinks to locals in the city.
The shop, with its bright frescoes and terracotta jars, was discovered in 2019 and unveiled on Saturday.
The paintings found at the site are believed to show some of the food that was on offer to customers, including chicken and duck.
Traces of pork, fish, snails and beef were also discovered in jars and other containers."
Slap a soda fountain in there and you got yourself the next Subway/Chipotle!

Saw this yesterday. Definitely really interesting. I was in Pompeii a few years back. It was really fascinating how well-preserved a lot of it is.

No they were more civilized than your Popeye's customers.
The more the game changes the more it stays the same. They found that ancient egyptians and even Aztecs were performing eye and brain surgeries. Ancient Greeks and Romans were actually a lot less ancient than we think of. It seems there are cycles where humanity is doing really well and then degnerates come and tear it all down.

I'm envious.
I love ancient history and Pompeii is certainly one of those wonderfully well preserved sites.
IIRC it was buried in about 70' of ash so it's truly amazing that it was discovered/uncovered and can be viewed today.
(I've given out too much greenz today)
