I wonder if this will lead to Precor making more home gym focused products and marketing to compete with Rogue and others? Their full power rack might be my dream rack but is pretty steep for home gym use ($3450 + shipping) and would require pretty tall ceilings (>98", not including head clearance for pull-ups):

Love Precor equipment
During the 2000's I trained at numerous gyms and most of them had Precor/Icarian equipment. Nice looking and super solid equipment that took a lot of abuse.
It's good to see that they will be American owned again. When it started out as Icarian, it was Howard Briles and Carl Johnson the founders making equipment that competed against the big boys of the time Nautius and Universal. I'm not a hundred percent sure of the timeline but they went bankrupt around 1989-1990. They eventually became Precor, were owned by Amer Sports a Finnish company who were bought by a chinese company Anta Sports 2 years ago.
They got a real nice adjustable bench marked down from $1200 down to $700.

I've looked at the Precor/Icarian Adjustable Ab bench 113. Now it's the Discovery Series DBR-0113. It looks fairly good in the videos I've looked at but doesn't resemble the old Icarian one in the least with regard to the beefy padding and support.
I've noticed the 113s that are out there for sale still seem to be asking a decent price for an older sit up bench. I'd love to have one.https://soundcloud.com/dave-ferris

I look at this acquisition not as much how it will alter Precour for the home market but rather how much Pelaton will influence Precor in the commercial market. Gyms are going to change, fitness is moving to the app based platform, I see gyms downsizing and becoming more like home gyms catering to app based users moving forward.

"Establishing U.S. manufacturingThe acquisition adds 625,000 square feet of U.S. manufacturing capacity with in-house tooling and fabrication, product development, and quality assurance capabilities in Whitsett, North Carolina and Woodinville, Washington. Peloton will be able to control the entire production process, from design to ship, and increase total production scale, while maintaining a high level of product quality. By making fitness equipment closer to U.S. consumers, Peloton will be able to deliver connected fitness products to Members sooner. The Precor U.S. facilities will join Peloton’s existing manufacturing network with its third party manufacturers and the Tonic facilities based in Taiwan. Once the transaction closes, the Precor U.S. facilities will provide Peloton with incremental operational scale and flexibility to support the growth of its connected fitness product line.Investing more in research and development The acquisition would add a team of nearly 100 dedicated research and development employees to Peloton’s accomplished R&D team. With decades of experience designing and engineering cardio and strength fitness equipment
and user."
It takes their capabilities up ten fold, plus after the pandemic exposed the problem with having manufacturing in Asia, it takes that problem away as well.
I don't think this will hurt Precor's quality, I think it improves Peloton's quality and capabilities. Precor is doing the manufacturing not Peloton.

I bought that bench when they did the same sale right around beginning of pandemic in March. It’s built like a tank.

[QUOTE=Icarian5150;1626846543] Did they give you a choice, or is it black padding and gray frame only because of the sale?
Here's the original Icarian Super bench, which was fully welded and super heavy.

+1. I think virtually interactive fitness equipment like Peloton, Mirror, etc. are the future. They're not for me, but I think they're the future nonetheless.
I'm an avid hiker (1,000+ miles per year) so I'm not much for indoor cardio, but to each his/her own. My wife is big on cardio and not so big on temps outside the 55-70 range, so she prefers doing her cardio indoors.
