I usually like to run around 25-30 min 4x a week. My cardio is usually around 3.5 mile runs at an 8 min pace so kinda hard but not to bad for me anymore. I was just wondering is it actually true cardio can cause muscle loss? I always eat more than I burn in a day and rn I may not be able to go to the gym (covid) but I have a little setup in my basement (20 pound dumbbells/70 pound barbell) that I’m pushing myself with to not lose any of my strength or gains.

I started running in august this year for the first time in my life, i am now running a similar amount of miles and funnily enough a similar pace as you albeit a tiny bit slower, I'm currently averaging 2.5-3 miles and an 8.5 min mile pace, usually at least every other day sometimes multiple days in a row. I've not lost any strength or muscle and i have had no problem gaining strength providing i eat enough, currently cutting with a few day's of maintenance each week. Strength is the same as usual.

To add, if you overdo it and do not maintain sufficient caloric intake, it can indeed make you go into a catabolic state...
