I think it is the right move to be honest although he puts on some great fights.
He has no chance of a belt at 155 or 170, could possibly get paid more being a big name on a Bellator roster.
Maybe he will gain some of that wheaties fame backpositivity brah crew

he knew he wasnt going to get a new deal so this was to save face. guys like JDS and cerrone wont be too far behind him as the ufc looks to get rid of higher paid fighters that are at the end of their careers
good dude though. met him while we were playing blackjack at foxwoods when the ufc was there in 2014. he talked to and was super cool to everyone at our tableMinisterOfLust: scooterbrah and Mcfreoko are the two worst posters here.

Dana said something like 60 guys are going to be cut. It might be a mistake if they are replacing these aging big names with nobodies. The big names would always be good for filling main cards and adding more excitement. You knew Pettis wasn't going to be champ again but he always put on good fights and was worth watching every time.
I think the idea is if you're on a big contract and you're not challenging for the title/top 5, you're on the chopping block.
Cerrone, JDS, Maia, Lawler, Woodley, Overeem, etc. I think these are the types of guys who need to be worried. Gonna be weird seeing some of them go.

I think Cerrone will still be kept, I think it is also a matter of whether or not they bring value to the UFC vs what they are being paid on contract.
Cerrone is still a fan favourite
But JDS has been KOed four times in a row, Maia is old, boring and over the hill, it's actually very sad seeing Lawler fight at this point, nobody likes Woodley and he seems more focused on his rap career than fighting as evidenced by his past few fights. Overeem may still have some juice left but he's on borrowed time right now and the HW division isn't very deep.
I wonder how long until we see Ferguson on the chopping block. There is a lot of new and exciting fresh blood in the UFC but I agree maybe cutting these guys too quickly might be a bad idea. I say let these new guys build their names off the old guys, basically make them sacrificial lambs lmao then that will give Dana an excuse to release them "these old guys have lost recently and are over the hill, and these new guys look really good". People will watch if there are the old school names in there which will give exposure to the new guys. I think that's what they sort of did with this card. Thompson vs Neal, Pettis vs Morono, Aldo vs Vera, Marcin vs Hardy, Moraes vs Font. But literally all the old school bigger name brahs won lol .... except for Moraes.positivity brah crew
