Was trying to buy an iPhone from some dude. Never used FB marketplace before
Start negotiating him down
He’s sends payment request (I assumed it was linked to item)
I pay the request
Realized now I def got scammed and just sent some dude money
Is there anything I can do? Should I just tell PayPal it was unauthorized and not me?
Or tell them I ****ed up?

Contact Paypal, they have a entire section of their business model to go after chite like this. Make sure you have empirical evidence (screen shot of a verbal and contextual agreement between you and the seller for monetary compensation in exchange for goods/services rendered). PayPal will pursuer this as its not just against their T.O.S, it violates local, state, and federal laws.
No sense in lecturing you since your being humble and admitting you didn't follow proper procedure to avoid getting scammed online. Just keep your eyes open next time, and for chit like iPhone and high dollar items.... pay a little more and buy them from official channels. ******** market place is for any reputable good is like Tinder for getting quality poosey... there is a reason why the people who are there are there.

You should definitely call Paypal. From what I've read Paypal favors buyers more than sellers. However if you made payment via gift it's pretty much gone. Did the payment request have details on what was being purchased? If so you're pretty much covered if the item doesn't arrive or if he sends an item not as described on the payment request. How do you know you've been scammed though?

It was basically a gift. I didn’t even realize it, I just assumed going through their platform that any payments would be for the item we were discussing in the chat.
It was stupid on my part, I’ve never used it before.
Hoping PayPal helps me as I’ve been with them for 15 years- Disregard females, acquire real estate
