On American highways, a suburban mom in a nissan crossover can drive at 40 mph on a 70 mph interstate and slow down trucks carrying essential cargo.
She can also slow down lots of cars, ruining fuel economy, harming the environment.
Other than that, slow drivers cause road rage and cause someone to overtake from right side causing accidents.
I think we need to increase speed limits on highways or have minimum speeds...this will ensure more americans get comfortable driving at higher speeds.
cruising at higher speed is better for fuel economy anyway rather than frequently having to slow down.
this also ensures trucks & trailers can deliver cargo to states better & people can shave off their travel time.
I also think the recent trend of crossovers has caused average speeds to drop in America because crossovers feel very unstable and suffer body roll at higher speeds causing drivers to go slow.

Are Speed Limits on highways slowing down U.S Economy & increasing costs?

Short answer: no
Long answer: nah
Cars have a speed limit for a reason. Its due to physics. The faster a car goes, the more kinetic energy it develops, which can lead to catastrophic dangers.
Semis have a speed limit due to its weight. They become like mini bombs if they reach a certain speed.
So safety is taken into consideration here which slows down the speed at which people travels. Of course everyone wants to go faster.Last edited by tunafishha; 12-22-2020 at 05:46 PM.

I just got a reckless driving ticket for going 80 in a 55, but the thing is, I was driving the same speed as everyone else, plus the cop says he clocked me going 65, but said that another cop saw me going 80. I'm definitely getting a lawyer to fight this.
Anyways, yes, the speed limits are too low, and there is proof that speed limits cause more accidents than no speed limits. Montana used to not have speed limits, after they enacted speed limits people started having more accidents."So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. It seems ridiculous how highway speed limits haven't changed in over half a century while car and brake performance has increased dramatically on average. Like the average economy car might as well be a race car compared to the average car of the 50's. These speed limits were put in place back when the average car hardly had 100hp and had awful drum brakes with a ridiculously long stopping distance, low-tech tires that barely worked and pretty much no safety tech to protect people. Cars these days practically drive themselves and are easily capable of driving a lot faster than the speed limit on highways without issue. Speed limits really need to be updated.

There would likely still need to be a major improvement in driver training and licensing. Driver’s Ed in high schools has been **** for decades and there are more than enough drivers that are just so bad at the job that features like Tesla’s Autopilot and GM’s SuperCruise, even at their current stage of development, is safer than most of those drivers.

I've been living in Germany for the past few months, the Autobahn is great because people also keep to the speed limit on the regulated parts. If there's a sign saying 100, people drive 100. Trucks aren't allowed to drive over the weekends and past 10 or 11 pm either IIRC.
