What is the purpose of doing weddings?

We spent 20k on our wedding. Wife and I covered half and each set of parents spent 5k. Ended up getting about 10k in monetary gifts.

10 years later, people still talk about what a fun time it was. Zero regrets.

Damn this is almost my exact same situation I am in right now..although def something wrong with my Fiancé..its legit is making her sick that a standard wedding is around 20k..She would rather do it for 1k and have a dinner somewhere with close friends..

This, we looked at it as a chance to throw a big party and enjoy the company of our friends and family. We didn't go stupid though think we spent like 10k, which funny enough is the same amount we just spent on a new fence so in that perspective it's not that big of a deal.

Now people throwing weddings that indebt themselves and put significant financial pressure on their lives... that's retarded.

Basically Me it's her 2nd my first. My family is huge and Ill be the first one in my immediate family to get married so no way I can get away with that. She had a horrible first wedding like 10 years ago and she said it sucked so I want her to have a good fun one. But the thought of spending that kind of money makes her ill haha. She legit went back to where I bought her ring and downsized the diamond because it was too expensive. Im like u wot with this chick!

High end booze was $40 a head for me and thats with me bringing in my own liqour and not using a caterer.

Hey thats a great trait for a future wife. As long as you can afford it without sweating it, I think your reasons are sound. Im sure she will have a great time and you wont think twice about the money after the fact. I never second guess money decisions when its spent for all the right reasons.
