Not from NY but it does get exponentially worse the further you get away. You can find "mom and pop" pizza places in rural areas outside of NY that migrated away from the city, rumor was back in the day they were all "family" getting into business in small towns. The pizza joints are still open today and are pretty good.

Born and raised NY brah but live in MD now. There are some places that aren't terrible, but obviously nowhere near NY tier level. One thing I do then is look for decent "artisan" pizza places. You can typically find some good eats along those lines because they're not trying to be NY style (or Chicago either).

Chicago pizza is not pizza, it's a bread bowl soup thing and gross af.
Back on topic, the water is what makes a difference. There was a place in Florida I went to a few times that actually shipped water in, I don't recall what it was called though. It was a long time ago. NY does have some pretty good pizza.

First of all, Chicago-style thin crust is the superior format.
Second of all, the Phoenix pizza scene is a sleeper that is on the way to greatness. Nobody should leave Scottsdale without having a pie and a cocktail on the patio at Craft 64, and Goldbelly ships Pizzeria Bianco nationwide and can charge extravagant prices for it for a reason.Nah, fukk that. I’m not doing that.

I'm not a baker but from my beer brewing experience I know that yeast impacts flavor, so I'd imagine whatever they have over there is probably some variety that has been cultivated by that area. If somebody is flying it out I'd bet that's part of it, also when I was in Italy the food was far more fresh and better overall than what we get here. Better ingredients better pizza right

i'll have to check out that craft 64 place. i had never heard of it before but i generally don't spend any time in old town as i live like 30+ minutes north of there
i used to agree with your chicago thin crust assessment until lou malnati's came to town a couple of years back. Lou's deep dish is literally the only pizza i want to eat right now. prior to that all i ate was chicago thin crustMinisterOfLust: scooterbrah and Mcfreoko are the two worst posters here.
