I can understand a chiro saying no barbell squats because that actually compresses the spine, although I actually knew a chiro RIP who had all his trainees squat with a bar and then he would manually work on thier adjustments, the guy was one of a kind.
But I’m very confused why bench or anything seated would be ok? I mean we are now talking the spine being compressed between a seat or bench and weight.
If it works, great but it don’t seem right to my logic?
And deadlifts should decompress more than compress because the bar is in front of the skeletal structure?
But again if that works, than great!

You will be OK. I pretty much have not squatted or deadlifted in 2 1/2 years. Just have to do what you can do.
Man I got hit like a ton of bricks for Christmas. Last thurs felt "off". Fri, 99.7 temp but still a little off. Sat, all hell broke loose! 101.8 feaver and could not keep food in me. Worst diarrhea I have ever had. Sun did not get out of bed same. Just was able to eat some soup.
Mon first thing got COVID tested. Quick test came back negative. And flu negative. Got other test back today and negative.
Today is the first day I have been able to eat food and I finally felt 'normal'. I went in the gym tonight for the hell of it. Muscles were shaky. Originally I thought I would be fine, but did not feel up to pushing heavy weight.
For the heck of it, I shot a vid to end out 2020. I am as flat as I can be and about 10 lbs down (probably mainly glycogen) from not eating anything for 2 days and not getting out of bed for almost 3 days. Definitely can see the drop in size in just a few days of not being able to eat.
Last accountability of 2020.....
For 2021, I might let my weight drift up a touch and make efforts to lift what my back allows me to. I dont want to hit over 217 though as I will try in spring to get in decent shape. That gives me 5-7lbs I can drift up. I am sure 8lbs-10lbs will be back in a few days and I will be 210 again.

I will politely disagree . You have already had the mass, so getting it to 'come back' will not take what it took to get it the first time.
What it will take is EATING to gain mass. I know I have hit you with this before, but you should have no problem putting it back on. Just eat for 1lb/week. Since it is muscle memory, I will say that should be fine. But if you are picking up too much fat, drop it to 1/2lb/week.
Getting creative can help. I try to 'get at' muscles by using them in ways that dont allow me to go really heavy. I also concentrate on TUT, and "giant sets". Giant sets were something I used when I could not bench a lot.
Eg; Put on a weight you can do for 15.
10 reps and rack
take 10 breaths
8 reps and rack
10 breaths
6 reps and rack
10 breaths
AMRAP
Lots of stimulation going on in a very short time.
Good luck man....I promise....FOOD will have the biggest determination as to how fast your mass comes back. ESPECIALLY with muscle memory, it will be VERY favorable to positive nutrient partitioning.RAW lifts

I don’t know. I’ve got a 2nd and 3rd grader, this is the first year someone hasn’t been sick in the house with a cold etc at all this year. Usually monthly someone has something. My son had one minor ear infection but that was it. Flu season was pretty much nonexistent in the Southern Hemisphere this year too, I’m guessing flu numbers will be really low this year.
ID that sounds like food poisoning symptoms since negative for flu/COVID, just due to the short duration. Could have been norovirus but that usually takes longer to get over.

I know plenty of folks who've had the regular gamut of illnesses (and our ER numbers haven't changed for run of the mill stuff... much)…. that said, social distancing/less contact, handwashing, masks... all that stuff mitigates (doesn't 100% prevent) transmission of all the things

Did my singles this week - sorry no vids as my spotter was spotting....
Was a little disappointed when I tried big jumps but felt that hitting 445 SQ/305 Bench/485 DL was ok given that I've been at a caloric deficit for the past 12 weeks.
I will go back to caloric neutral and work as hard as I can for my next meet at the end of Feb.
Still motivated!It's never too late!

Yep, it’s not good. Really bad when you can’t even keep water down I’ve had it once that I recall and it just wiped me out for several days throwing up while on the $hitter no bueno. Giardia takes out a lot of hikers who don’t boil or purify their water effectively. My old lab got that once from a creek and I thought he was gonna die. Antibiotics and injecting him with fluids fixed him up in a couple days (he wouldn’t drink water so my vet friend injected him subcutaneous fluids).
Haven’t touched a weight in nearly a week. Just ate a massive feast. Planning a getting back full swing in the new year. Might get a couple sessions in before then, but it’s getting too cold for garage gym.

Working on my squats around this hip issue.
So I tried just squatting in socks first and felt terrible trying to get low. I added this pad under my heels and taped my basic comfortable stance.
A lot better but feel free to critique. I feel like I'm still having an issue clearing hips despite feeling wide as all heck.
Edit- I changed the vid to only the better reps with the pad under my heels to shorten it up.Last edited by ezra76; 12-27-2020 at 09:18 AM.

Aside from not being able to get your hips lower than your knees, I don't know what the 'hip issue' is that you refer to.
These should help. I do them (and a few other exercises) before every weight lifting workout.

Thanks I'll try those. I tweaked my hip 2x in the last month. I get lot better rom when I use that pad. I'd wear squat shoes but my ceiling is too low, I'd hit my head. I also wrapped only my left knee this time, which is the double torn meniscus one, because wrapping the right, which is the tweaked hip side, I feel like I might be moving stress up to the next joint, the hip.
Edit- I changed the vid so it's only the better reps with the pad under my heels.Last edited by ezra76; 12-27-2020 at 09:19 AM.

Thanks. It's really only the hip that's an issue. The knee has been like that for years and doesn't bother me as long as I keep a tight wrap on it and no running/jumping. I used to front/back squat atg no problem 10yrs. ago. It's been a struggle now though.
The hip is just pissing me off because it was my own stupid fault I tweaked it, now it's just coming back over and again when I think it's healed. Why I would be messing around with 150lb. front squats when my working sets were 145 front- 225 back squats 10yrs. ago is beyond me.
On a positive note I pulled a 345 deadlift no problem. I got 365 in the bag once the hip feels better.Last edited by ezra76; 12-27-2020 at 09:47 AM.

Honestly this is the first time in my lifting career that I’m comfy with over 225 on them. For the last year I’ve only been doing them when 225 back squats hurt my lower back, my lower back always feels better after front squats.
It was just a few months ago that I dumped a 249 front squat, now that weight is easy.

Why do you do that jerk in the beginning of your squat? Also, it appears you are bending at the knees first before breaking at the hip. but it could be the angle. Not sure what exactly is wrong wit your hip but I would work on your flexibility/mobility before moving up on weight.

I have no idea on that jerk, probably just adjusting the bar slightly.
Ya I'm definitely going to start doing daily stretch/mobility stuff. Supramax put a link with a bunch of good stuff. I can do all that in the am before I go on my exercise bike.
I'm seriously considering just taking squats out of my leg day entirely and doing a squat/deadlift day for a 5th workout. I can do the other 4 workouts 4days in a row no problem without the squats and deads mixed in. Plus I did like 5 warm up sets, that'll be a 3hour leg workout by the time I get done.
I put that sandbag in there just for youLast edited by ezra76; 12-28-2020 at 01:38 PM.

My son is creeping up on squats goal of 315lbs for 5, 275lbs for 5 sets of 5. He only got 2 reps on the deadlifts of 365lbs, (goal is 405lbs) so not posting it, but he will get 5 by Friday, he had it in him he just mentally gave up.
I am staying away from any heavy lifting till my back gets better I did some curls, 90lbs for 10 sets of 5 reps., Also did some shrugs and some one 45lbs plate front raises.
