Thanks man, my legs are my weakest body part and I try to hit them as hard as i possibly can, but once I stop training they turn to toothpicks!

Dropped the weight on deadlifts as well to give my back a break and until this starts to feel light I wont go up.

Not really lifting related, but I did my first long trail run this weekend. Went to Salt Fork State Park in Ohio and ran the Bigfoot 20 miler (which is a dirty trick as it's two loops of 10.4 each so it ended up being almost 21 miles). Super muddy with ~3000' of elevation, light rain, but it was beautiful out there. Took me about 5 hours and 21 minutes. That's a sub 15:30 pace on rough hills so I'm pretty pleased with that.

I took a few pictures but I was on the move so they all suck. Just some of the lake we were running around, a few hills I saw, and one of the medics on horseback to get to us and extract us was pretty cool. I am bad at taking pictures in general, much less when I'm trying not to crap my lungs out.

Hit a garage session after work today. A little colder out so fired up the heater when I got home and did some stuff inside for 45 minutes before heading out. I started off good, but really started running out of gas after half hour or so. Could just be im out of shape, but started it get a little headache and ringing in my ears which are all signs of carbon monoxide exposure. I’ll bring a gas meter home on Wednesday and see what kind of readings I get for CO. Might need a little more ventilation than I had today (door closed windows slightly open). I’ve measured it before and it was under 35 ppm but that was awhile ago and it could have changed if the heater is running rich due to the air intake being dirty.

    Here’s rows from today 185x10

Been 2000 cals or below for a couple weeks, but pretty much sedentary. No cardio, not as active at work since everything is digital now for meetings etc. just sit in my chair and rot.

When I’m doing lighter weights/higher reps I prefer to not let it touch the floor to keep the tension on my back. When I lift heavier lower rep sets I usually do them with a reset each rep (Pendlay rows). When I do Pendlay rows I let it stop on the floor, tense my back like setting up for a DL then row/repeat. My first set @135 I did with a supinated grip (palms up) and I like that too (maybe better for how it feels), but it bothers my elbows if I do that too much or with too much weight.

I know you have access to environmental testing stuff but a simple solution would be to use a CO dot. In the winter flying the helicopter I used to always have one of these in the cockpit. They are cheap and last for 12 months.

Dot turns black in presence of CO 100 PPM turns in 15-45 minutes / 200 PPM 4-5 minutes / 300 PPM 2-4 minutes / 400 PPM 1-4 minutes

Yeah I have the basics. I had more stuff crammed in there but sold a lot. I had a rack of matching pairs of kettlebells 5-100, some other specialty benches, pull-up/dip station and some other stuff, but it was just too much for the space and I think the most use the KBs saw was moving them in when I bought them and out when I sold them.

I had a plug in CO detector in there but never replaced when it went bad. I’ll still bring an accurate 4 way gas meter home to get an idea and make changes to ventilation if needed, but those are pretty neat and cheap. I might buy some of those for work. They’d be good for heavy equipment operators in the winter loading salt in the salt domes and in patrol boats and locomotives.

My roommates and I got CO poisoning in college in a crappy rental with a gravity furnace. We all thought we had the flu, but would feel better being out for the day. Furnace was in a nasty basement that we never went into. Finally the furnace started detonating. We thought the house was going to explode cause the furnace detonations were shaking the paper thin walls. Called the gas company, they came out and found really high CO levels and basically kicked us out. I feel fine now, might just be out of shape, but I’ll find out. I felt gassed doing squats at the gym with a mask on too, so probably just out of shape. I get my choice of breathing carbon monoxide and soot in the garage gym or covids and my own carbon dioxide at the public gym .

    Nice set up...Nice rows!

When I first set up my garage gym I called the Fire Dept and asked what heater I could use without venting. Either a BIG 230V construction heater, or any type of kerosene heater, they even suggested the model. The kerosene heater was fine other than it had a sweet jet fuel smell which went away after an hour our two. Never had headaches or any other symptoms of CO exposure. I was more leery of storing large amounts of fuel so I only kept enough to refill the tank once(which is still too much) on hand, so often there were a lot of stops at the hardware store on the way home. Our garage opens to the north and has poor insulation so if it -15C out the best you could do was bring the temp up maybe 0 or just under. Last winter I just went to the YMCA (), this year I moved what I could into the basement and going minimalist till April. Can't stand the cold anymore or the slush from cars on the lifting platform.
Please record my time/reps if I pass out

Last night I upped the weight on OHP to 130Lbs, back holding up, no pain, however during squats felt some numbness on both legs, had to continue stretching between sets...that sucked. I did my Xrays yesterday morning and have a follow up on Jan 8th.

My sons Jason and Eric inching their way up to 3 plates on the squats up to 255lbs for 5.

I’ll probably bump them up a little next session that I do them.

Try to trim them down to save time.

Pilots live (and die) by these. Most piston general aviation airplanes and helos use heat sleeves either around the cyl or exhaust and blow air across to direct hot air into cabin. Any little crack can leak CO. Couple that with altitude flying and it is a recipe for disaster. Turbines use 'bleed' air which is siphoned off some of the compressor wheels prior to combustion so it is not as big an issue with turbine aircraft.

Anyway, those little dots are super cheap and piece of mind. I can imagine working a front end loader in a salt dome might get a little nasty with ventilation if you are loading trucks all day.

One other thing, if the garage gym will be something for a while, which it looks like it may be, might I suggest a weekend project of insulating it. Even just with some foil back sheets w/ taped seams. Super easy to hang. You would be amazed what you get just putting up R5 sheets AND taping. You will probably run the heater about 5-10% of what you have to now.

I just recently looked at some vent less natural gas units. Probably the best in terms of operating costs, but would need to run gas line from the house to my garage. I have a 60K BTU kerosene heater in there but run diesel in it because its cheaper, but not as clean burning.

IIRC you start to lose visual acuity around 6500' even w/out CO in the mix, I never thought about CO issues in aircraft, that would be bad news. I was just looking at putting some faced R13 in the walls and R19 in the roof. It would be some work moving crap around but probably worth it, especially if I decide to get real heat out there over the summer. I think I might just renew my membership. My motivation just sucks in the garage gym, especially when its cold. I like space and more equipment. I grew pretty fond of my machine day Wednesday sessions (light day).

I tried getting all 5 without the push press but my shoulders were dead that was the 5th set.

I really enjoy training with my sons, hope to God they don't close the damn gym!

Push press might be what gets that clean rep next time. Are you guys doing 5x5 on everything? I have been slacking and usually only 1 warmup and 3 work sets but about equal volume (8-12 rep sets). I need to get some fire back to train with more purpose. I'm basically just slowing the decline with what I'm doing now, and I know it. Maybe I should fire a up a journal again, but as mentioned its time consuming and this is basically an open O35 combined journal anyway

Try widening your grip a little bit on that OHP, BH. You could be hindering a little power.

I train w/my son at least a couple times a week too. He likes to lift in the evening some of the time, so he's on his own then (I like a lot of sleep).

Yeah he is a piece of crap, the good thing is my gym is not in the 5 boroughs of NYC, unless Cuomo shuts down NYS then the gym will likely close

Can't widen my grip shoulder surgery (fr0m my car accident) on my left shoulder fcked me up, if I go wide the pain is unbearable. I've always trained in the evenings (10:00 PM), this is the earliest I have ever trained (7:00 PM) but this is due to Covid since the gym closes at 9:30.

Some shoulders and abs in the dungeon. Been using the bench on 80 degree setting for barbell. I do arnold presses with db's after at 90 degree. Back is shaping up but still looking fatter than I feel .

Edit- sorry first 30 seconds is just me sitting there coughing. I went all damn day without smoking then decided to have one 15minutes before my workout. I told my wife to put them somewhere I couldn't find them.

I don't know how you can do those unbelted. I have to wear a belt for biceps for cripes sakes or I'll get spasms.

Strong squats there too. Good stuff.

PR Dead Lift 465 x 1, I've been adding 5# a week and every week since 450 I've thought about taking that week. I felt the same today, tired, achy, but I'm still going.

As easy as this looks, I got DOMS from head to toe now, every muscle is taxed (was the same last week), I actually think 465 was a tad easier too (last week, 460 was kinda a grinder).

And even wearing sweats, my legs got cut open.

Nice I like a slight angle for shoulder presses too for DBs (do all my BB standing). Just feels more natural on my shoulders and easier to get them in place too w/DBs.

Super muddy with ~3000' of elevation, light rain, but it was beautiful out there. Took me about 5 hours and 21 minutes. That's a sub 15:30 pace on rough hills so I'm pretty pleased with that.

Awesome pace on that kind of terrain!
