LOL You can stand the phone on anything to do a video. I used to do it all the time when I was training alone, its a bitch but I do what I have to do
Yup 365lbs, Its always traditional we don't ever do sumo. He needs to learn to drive more with his legs, he gets 3 up but then he breaks form and starts using too much back, I know his back is strong enough to get the weight up, but he needs to correct his form as he doesn't drive backwards.
We are working on ques now and he will attempt to get 5 reps with 365lbs on Friday I know he can get it.On the list for Bannukah

That's the safest way but I'll bet he's already capable of 405. I used to do 225 for a couple, 315 for a couple then right to max when I could get 405 and 425. That's what I still do if I max. Deadlifts will squash your cns real quick so in my experience if you are going to go for a max, get right to it.
Romanians are good too for getting more reps. Like 275x8 on Romanians.
I used to like to use a visual of the hulk lifting something so heavy the concrete under his feet cracked apart, push down floor down. Now I'm just old and trying not to injure myself.

I am sure he could get 405lbs for 1, but we are not training for 1RPM, I am just working on him to build a solid foundation then we are going into a bodybuilding routine very soon. He wants to have that "look"
I never trained for strength specifically, just for bodybuilding, but along the way (because I added some strength training to aid in my bodybbuilding goals) I got stronger. On the list for Bannukah

Good work Flex!
BH, I tried to record my Wed squats (last heavy set) but the camera slipped and recorded the ceiling! Sorry I let you down!
Yesterday bench day:
3x3 3 sec descent, pause @ 255. Felt good. Set up felt locked in, much better drive through legs with the heels up technique. The video is my second set, I'm not sure if the angle makes it look like my right side is lower or if it really is lower...
3x6 ultra wide grip @195/205/225 (low RPE)
OHP @ 55, 15/12/10/10/10 supersets with 15/12/10/10/10 bw dips
3x15 lat pulldowns, supersets with 3x10 horizontal pull ups (bar 36 in off ground, pull up from prone)
Feeling really great heading into mini-test week next week to see 'where I'm at' - 5 weeks out from NW regional championships.
It's never too late!

Nice work. I've been terrible on chest this week. Need to go back down to pause reps, less weight, more reps.
My diet has been all over the place too and I'm at the point I'm done with muscle memory gains being able to overcome it.
I look at my 22% bodyfat and next thing I'm eating 2k calories instead of the 2700 I need to gain.

I normally do 1 set in a couple minutes and call it a day. I'm not used to two sets of 10 back to back, so I'll take it. Sure felt like a "workout".
I'm hopefully gonna push 275 for 20 or more next week. I want my back in good condition, hence not repping out 335.
I forgot to post this clean and push press 183 (working through the 180's now)-

Strength training progress is achievable from minimal training approach. 2 hour legs sounds like bodybuilding, which is not my goal.
Many powerlifters trained 2 hours on multiple lifts and shared platforms and made world/national record lifts back when there was only a few classes.
Just saying. But yesterday for me was most done in shortest time, I like the cardio effect as I’m a beer drinking spoon lifting slob and will never step on a cardio machine, LOL.
For the record, I wish I had a full 2 hours to train, period. I gots drama at home!

That and trying to help relight the fire in the grumpy old grizzly bear. Then decided to delete the comment 5 mins after posting it; figuring it likely would be interpreted negatively which was not my intention. So instead I said my piece to the bear along with some green skittles. Looks now like I did fire him up some, so mission kinda accomplished...
Thanks for having this skinny dude's back.
and now back to our regularly scheduled program.

I dig and that's a legit bummer. With that being said, who gives a flying fuk if someone calls you a "bitch"; particularly on the internet. That $hit should only ever provide a degree of motivation, and mileage of course will vary.
In my humble opinion, when you cant train your body due to injury, you use that time to train your mind. As the two work together to help in realizing our max potential.
As you know, we need resistance to push against or we fall. If it helps, feel free to use me as a form of resistance. I'm always happy to be of use.
EDIT: Now I'll shut up.Last edited by ChazWood; 01-24-2021 at 09:08 AM.

haha! BOOM.
For what it's worth, the story of Alex Smith on 60 Minutes last week helped me turn the corner on my latest setback. If you haven't seen it, I strongly recommend checking it out. The video is copyrighted and not found on YouTube, but here's a transcript:
Alex Smith 60 Minutes Interview: “This year has only emboldened for me that I can play at this level”
Mega inspiring stuff!

[QUOTE=-=FLEX=-
Not lifting due to injury is a lot different than not lifting due to "drama" at home.
[/QUOTE]
IDK if this statement needs clarification or not but I will clarify that I’m NOT missing workouts because of that, I don’t train for 2 hours but that’s not essential to make gains. I’ve found training briefly and being creative nets some of the best progress.

GJ Flex, way to dive back in!!!
Did a makeup workout on Friday to get my Deads in for the week.
Was going pretty heavy, trying to blast through them so no vids again.
Capped a very good week overall though!
425x2, then 4x2 @405, all 2" deficit
3x8 good mornings @225
3x12 reverse lat pull downs
3x12 face pulls
This week will start each day with a top set (1-2RM) to see where I'm at (1 month out from comp), then do a normal workout.
Been at this 'for real' (was in the gym casually for ~6 months before that) for 3 months and feeling good - the newb gains are real.
(I do have progress pics up on my bodyspace)Last edited by PhDPepper1111; 01-26-2021 at 11:27 AM.
