Sting debuts at AEW (video)
...and according to which an ensign might rank incomparably higher than a general, and according to which what was needed for success in the service was not effort or work, or courage, or perseverance, but only the knowledge of how to get on with those who can grant rewards, and he was himself often surprised at the rapidity of his success, and at the inability of others to understand these things

I may be wrong, but I think J.R. was in a much reduced role in WWE before he left? Around 2008-2010 or so, WWE started phasing him out. The rumor is that Vince & co. wanted someone younger, fresher, & better-looking than J.R.
Anyways -- is Sting gonna' wrestle, or manager someone / be an on-air personality?

If he's happy and can still move comfortably, I'm all for it. I don't know what he's going to do, but not a chance he's going to do anything that would put him in danger, like a busy schedule.

Probably because WWE buried him in a retarded feud with HHH (instead of the Undertaker match everyone wanted) and then seriously injured him while the best years of his career were on TNT, so it should end on a show on TNT.
And OP- JR is on AEW because he’s the GOAT.Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. -C.S. Lewis

1) Jr was phased out of wwe and from what I remember reading, he wasnt one of vince favorite people because he wasnt a yes man. So you had vince on tv pretending to have facial paralysis mocking JR meanwhile wwe promoting no bullying (be a star) and michael cole writing jr off tv due to 'anal bleeding'. JR should never go back to a company like that
2) sting was misused in WWE as mentioned before. He was wasted on Triple H and seth rollins of all people when he should have gone over a few people and had a few high profile wins to highlight the video library on wwe network. Chances are wwe wouldnt clear him to wrestle again but AEW will because they are the goat. Hopefully they let him wrestle here and there, manage someone or more likely have a tag match to work with some up and comers

meh.
WWE ruined him. He didn't win a single match in the big leagues. Ok ,so he lost to HHH. Not too bad. HHH is a top star. Then Sting loses to Seth Rollins. Now, normally you could let this pass. Sting was older and Seth in his prime; but, Seth just went life and death and got thoroughly pummeled in a loss to John Cena. Seth was there for the taking. John Cena did all the work! It must mean Sting was a total scrub if he couldn't even handle Cena's sloppy seconds. Sting's pathetic attempt at the big time proved that he wasn't good enough to be a WWE Superstar. All those years he was just a big fish in the tiny WCW pond.
Expecting me to get excited about Sting in AEW is like expecting me to get excited about CM Punk joining Bellator after seeing him get his butt kicked in UFC.
He should have come back as Surfer Sting. At least then we can remember back when people thought he was a winner (beating WCW nobodies).^^^()()GERMANIC CREW()()^^^

I really liked Sting when I was a kid, I’m tempted to start watching wrestling again because of his return, I haven’t watched since probably 2011, apart from clips here and there. From what I have seen of AEW it reminds me of TNA, although I know it’s been compared to WCW.
AEW needs some bigger names because Chris Jericho alone isn’t going to be able to carry the brand, I know Jack Swagger, Dean Ambrose, and Cody Rhodes are over there but neither one of them have really shown much talent in my opinion.
I think Dean has been pushed enough that people have been convinced he’s something special but he really isn’t, he’s a mid-card guy. So in AEW he’s a medium fish in a small pond. As for Cody he’s lucky he comes from a wrestling family. He doesn’t have a good gimmick, he doesn’t have great mic skills, he’s got a ridiculous lisp, and he’s an SJW. He’s got solid in ring ability but that’s about it. The same things I said about Cody apply to Jack Swagger.
Someone I see potential in is this Darby Allin guy. He’s got good skills, an interesting gimmick, a unique look, and a good entrance theme. I see big things in the future for him if he is pushed properly.
I just remembered Matt Hardy is over there, he definitely adds value to AEW, even though he isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. However they need more big name veterans to really build more. Beyond that AEW has a good announce team which is a big plus.Last edited by SicilianPower; 12-03-2020 at 10:37 PM.

Sting ain't wrestling for AEW. He'll be a manager and a presence to boost ratings, give younger guys rubs and help everyone back stage.
He might have 1 or 2 matches so he doesn't have to retire on his garbage WWE matches. Having HHH go over him at Mania all those years ago was one of the dumbest things in wrestling history. So stupid. Not part of any crews crew

Never got to see WCW live but was a big Sting fan in TNA so I was excited to see him come to WWE and searched for whatever he did when he debuted but lol'd and still lol at they botched his WWE run.
The worst part is Triple H could've easily waited a year to the next WrestleMania to have his program with Sting but for whatever reason they never did Sting/Undertaker. Taker was also in a junk throwaway match with Wyatt that Mania lol.
Also Vince was battling in the Monday Night Wars in 2015...RUTHLESS AGGRESSION

First - Sting's WWE run got cut short because of the injury. They might've had big plans for him later.
The Triple H loss was necessary. Triple H, at that point, had not won a real match since Wrestlemania 29 against Brock, which was 2 years prior. Triple H needed that win badly.
Say Sting beats Triple H -- what then? Sting disappears and is gone soon after. But Triple H was the guy who was going to be on TV every week, the leader of the Authority, working with rising talent. You could wait a year, but having Triple H beat Sting after Undertaker has already beaten Sting would make Triple H's win less meaningful.
Like it or not, WWE made the right call by having Triple H beat Sting in Sting's first match.
For the Rollins loss, I think Sting wanted to put over Rollins. He described Rollins as the greatest talent that he ever worked with.

HHH had no problem jobbing to Ronda Rousey later on that same night. Sting couldn't even beat a guy that got beat up by a 135 lb woman.
HHH did not need the Sting win. I agree HHH needs wins, but this particular win did nothing for him.
The WWE commentary during the match also made Sting seem like small time loser.
The story they wanted to tell was that Sting is a WCW loser that can't compare to WWE. Mission accomplished.
For the Rollins match, again the deck was stacked in Stings favor. Rollins had to fight back to back. Cena beat him. Then Sting loses, because he's a WCW weakling that can't handle the real stars of WWE.

The problem with this is that nobody was clamoring for a HHH vs Sting match though. And if you bring in someone you shouldn’t have them lose their first big match because doing so buries them.
The WWE paid Sting a ton of money to bury him, effectively end his competitive in ring career, and put him in their hall of fame. They basically just set fire to money to placate some egos.Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. -C.S. Lewis

Since everyone's talking about Sting still, thought I'd just add that the match Sting got exposed in against Seth Rollins seemed like a hit job to me.
Like someone set out to humiliate Sting....and according to which an ensign might rank incomparably higher than a general, and according to which what was needed for success in the service was not effort or work, or courage, or perseverance, but only the knowledge of how to get on with those who can grant rewards, and he was himself often surprised at the rapidity of his success, and at the inability of others to understand these things

The entrance was great as can be.
No tweets, no rumors, that moment was a shocker. It’s just how it should be. Tony khan and they nailed the moment.
Darby Allen was the weakest stare down. He’s ok but powerhouse Hobbs is like the worst wrestler to be on aew. Gas tank **** tier.BLM (Brock Lesnar Matters)

I missed his tna run, but by the time sting got to wwe . It’d be like Terry Funk beating Stone Cold Steve Austin for the wwf title in 99.
We all remember him, he’s a legend. But no one should be made to believe that a sting at 56 could beat the current champ.
And Goldberg’s last 2 wwe title wins don’t really prove otherwise. Sting is not a squash you in under 30 seconds powerhouse. Sting would have to actually wrestle as wwe champion. Goldberg... who btw is a huge admirer of sting if you watched bill thank him during his hall of fame induction speech thrn you know there is a huge amount of respect between them.
Sting can’t just sho up bust out 1 move and squash them all.
If it’s been sting in there against kevin owens, dolph ziggler or undertaker. He’d have to show up to work. The Rollins match is a huge indicator that he could no longer hang with today’s stars at that level.
Wish he hadn’t gone out due to an injury.... anyone know if he planned to stick around maybe wrestle a handful of more matches in wwe giving the rub to young up and coming talents that can benefit from it. In fact wait didn’t he do that against that young hungry rookie the Big Show?!!!!!! Herp derp derp !BLM (Brock Lesnar Matters)

Sting easily beating Kevin Owens would have been very believable. Sting is still in better shape and looks like more of an athlete than Kevin Owens, who looks like a homeless person.
The buckle bomb is just a really stupid move. It doesn’t even look cool and it’s hard to protect yourself when you can’t see where you’re being thrown.Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. -C.S. Lewis

In all seriousness I heard a strong rumour that Kennedy wanted the Stinger to go up against the Hulkster. The WWFs GOAT vs the WCW GOAT. Would have been the biggest match of all time, unfortunately due to the Stingers injury, never happened. Just like in the early 80's when Big Daddy and Andre couldn't get it on (due to contractual disputes).
