I think I probably already know the answer to this...

But how thoroughly should I pepper my angoose if I want to buy a used bmw/merc? I hear horror stories all the time, but then again I see them on the road all the time fairly often (older ones). Are they all just leased? I'm specifically looking at a 2007 328i coupe manual for like 8k CAD. It's kinda like Elliot Rodger's spec. It has like 160k kms (100k miles, canada brah checking in). Obviously the cheap af price attracted me and joocy driving experience with manual. Like how much would you guys say you need to have set aside for maintenance and sht for a car like that?

Also may be a weird question, but what about old mercs? Like a 2003 c class or something. They're also cheap af and have manuals. The cars I'm looking at, not necessarily gonna buy but just wondering if you brahs have experiences with this. I'm an enthusiast but unfortunately can't wrench for sht.

Depends on who owned it before. If anyone young owned it then you need to seriously pepper thy angus. Wouldn't surprise me to see an engine blow or Transmission go out. So figure another 8 grand if that happens.

Honestly just not worth the hassle IMO. There is a reason German cars price drops off out of warranty. Anything E90 Class or newer are more difficult to work on, parts are expensive, etc.

E90 335i might be worth it since they have so much power relative to their price, you'll just need to find a good indy mechanic or be willing to do work yourself (you'll have to replace gaskets and seals and random rubber/plastic parts and probably electronics) but I wouldn't wanna deal with all that chit just for a 328i

The 328i isn't turbo so not as bad maintenance wise which is why I was curious about it.

How much should your pepper your angus? That depends if you can do some work yourself or if you take it to a dealer/shop.

The 3 series with the I-6 are about as reliable as BMWs get. Generally with higher mileage you want to look into getting cooling components replaced. Rest of the maintenance isn't really that different from any car. What I like about the 3 series is that they still feel very solid and nice to drive, even if you get the most base one.

The V6 Mercs are just boring af. No redeeming features whatsoever. The only good one is the C32 AMG, but those have issues.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit softly.

They are extremely unreliable after 100k miles. I wouldn’t touch with a 10 foot pole. It’s going to be a money pit and massive hassle. That’s probably why that person is selling it lmao. It’s already started breaking down completely.

If you are going used German be sure to buy certified pre-owned with an extended warranty. I recommend you check Lexus and Genesis certified pre-owned as well.

you're buying it because it isn't expensive right now. and then when something goes wrong with it, and it costs 3x what another car costs to fix, you're going to freak out. it happens all the time. over and over again. especially on the misc for some reason.

i guess it's because young bros are obsessed with buying an entry level c class or a BMW 3 series that has a ton of miles on it. hey good luck OP and i give you credit because at least you're asking questions first.

Lol I hear you man. Thanks for talking sense into me guys.

On another note, would you guys get a 2015 wrx with 100k kms for around 16-17k CAD? Is there a reason these seem suspiciously cheap?
