Good idea except I live in NY and indoor dining is shutdown, not to mention all high end restaurants want you to have experience waiting lol, that’s a joke once I memorize the menu I would be a natural.

You just have to understand this is the means to an end and keep going. Enjoy the learning process instead of thinking it's work. You have to actually want to learn it all because you'll be better off in 2-3 years and forget about how hard it was a few years from now.

Look into nootropics to help with the studying. Caffiene+theanine is a good basic combo for motivation and energy. Oxiracetam and Aniracetam for memory and dopamine. Ashwaghanda is great for the stress, holy basil, etc. A lot of nootropics have an odd effect of making you want to learn and retain the information. They are pretty pricey, but were well worth it for my journey for a few years.
Thanks man this is some of the best advice I’ve gotten and was thinking the same thing, if I refuse to fail then I won’t

Also been thinking of all the nootropic compounds I wanna try for memory since my memory is bad as it is

I know you said you have a bad back but could you do less labor intensive trade?

Look for job postings for painter or or general helper. Get paid $18-22/hr. If you get a gig like this, work damn hard and be a good learner from the guy you work with. Maybe see if you can do this 3-4 days per week to cover your bills and then do something on the side to reach a long term goal - community college, or learn a skill online yourself (coding, copywriting, video editing, web design, etc).

The important thing is to not let your situation get so bleak that you run out of options. Ex: you drain whatever savings you have left, your gf leaves you, and your settlement doesn't come through as expected. Remember that you never know which doors are going to open once you take the first step in a positive direction. Jordan Peterson talks about this concept on his first appearance on Jocko Podcast (#98 I think).

Maybe post-pandemic you could become a personal trainer? Market yourself on social media well, get a nice website, and you can keep increasing your price. Then start your supplement company.

Keep your chin up. We're all gonna make it. Just take the first few small steps in any direction.

I am following a similar thread in another forum. Many people are suggesting UPS or FedEx to a person in a similar situation as you. They are hiring. Pay is $18-$24/hour.

If you have any RN questions, I can try to answer them as well. Been Licensed since 2012. You will never be out of work. Especially with this pandemic going on.. nurses are making 70-100+ (per hour) with these covid contracts. Without covid; expect to make easy 45-57k first job (depending on location) with unlimited opportunities. Hate old people? Can work with only kids.. hate kids.. can work with old people.. hate people... can do audits or be rep. lol

What else in life is even worth focusing on with the pandemic? Good jobs are getting hard to come by, ones that pay well, manageable work that isn't at all that physical, but more mental based, and give you 4 weeks vacation are not out of the question when you get a half decent degree and internship. You'll see when you get into your classes a lot of unmotivated people or just can't quite learn everything in the classroom environment or lack of motivation. And you're realize, why the fuk can't I do this too? You can do really well just by giving a chit about studying instead of reverting back to bad habits that don't lead you anywhere. You can still manage a social life to stay sane, but quitting drinking and taking care of myself made it so much easier to do schoolwork. My memory drastically improved too.

If you're going into nursing etc, get the certs and get the jobs every one else is being passed up on. Corporate looks for experience and credentials. So pick the career you think you're gonna like and not hate and you'll be living a better life with good work-life balance. Nursing might not be the best career for balance because you'll be wanting to work OT because the pay is so good, getting contracted across the country to get paid double what the market avg is, that's not out of the question. Plenty of other healthcare jobs are better about the work-life balance if you so choose.

Just think once you finish this you could be ballin out of control. What this will do is hopefully pull you into new life experiences with your additional income. On a better path towards happiness...

    This.

You can basically become an app / web developer with 2-3 weeks of learning. But you got to spend all your time seriously on that.

You have no idea how much money you can make with that. Also, there are constant demands for coders.

You don't need to dive into the hardcore complex algorithmic stuff, just web/app design

I'd strongly advise you not to start up (another) supplement company.
It's a very competitive & saturated market to get into.

OP I know that NYC job market is A LOT better (but less competitive) than San Diego I have friends who majored in Computer Science and it was impossible for them to find a job quickly. 1 currently works in a warehouse the other had to work minimum wage at some Indian/Chinese company doing help desk. Even now he is still doing help desk, but can't find anything better.

If you do decide to go towards something computer science related, make sure you know what you are getting yourself into.

There are jobs here in accounting which sounds more your alley, but you will have to get an education 1st. And even then accounting is dog eat dog in the job search.
And you can really screw yourself over if you get stuck doing bookkeeping for longer than needed. People get stuck in it for 10 years and only make like $40K-50K (in California no less). You can easily make your difficult situation even worse.

So the most important advice is know what you are getting yourself into before choosing your path.

Wow OP we have very similar backgrounds, I did retail for ~15 years, went to college but had no real direction what I wanted to do so dropped out. I did attain associates degree though. Got into corrections for about 4 years and hated it as well for many of the reasons you listed, I ended up moving out of state and got a hospital security gig, it had great benefits and was a good job just didn't pay well and no real advancement. I was going to go the police route but instead went Fire, I didn't start till mid 30's and its the best job I've ever had. Its never too late to change your career or get into something new. Are you dead set on living in NY? You may have to move to land a decent career, they are out there.

If your back doesn’t hurt when doing it and you like driving get a CDL A and you can instantly get hired, and if you’re willing to do some more difficult or longer hours jobs (the regulation isn’t as evenly enforced everywhere) you can make a good living as well, but anything is pretty solid. The course is only about 1500-2 grand if you look around and do prep yourself. Other than that trade unions don’t need connections more and more. It does help but many of them have been sued so the needing a connection or being a son thing is definitely still around but not the only way. I got in with mine just by sending applications over and over to their additional hire list while I was working elsewhere until they took me. You can actually get membership within a. Few years working for most teamsters unions right now and they will hire you if you have a CDL A which is just a crazy good opportunity

Truck driving long hours and days wouldn't be ideal for me

Im applying for a couple union jobs that aint back breaking like operation engineers and heat & Frost Insulators but sad part is you need to know somone to get in, Even if you score 100% both these unions are hiring 20 ppl out of thousands. Im willing to even take out of savings for some to get me in.

I'm 28 almost 29 and currently unemployed for the last 3 months and not collecting any unemployment so I'm basically draining the few dollars I have left in my saving account. I started driving for Uber Eats for some extra income to slow down me draining my savings account. My monthly expenses are about $1200 not counting food, gas, etc. I'm basically looking for some steps to follow or for some one to point me in the right direction bc i feel there is no light at the end of the tunnel.

    Job history
    -Assistant manger GNC
    -Assistant manger Vitamin shoppe
    -Sales rep T-Mobile
-Correction Officer the last 3 yrs
-Recruit police officer but quit after 2 month
    -Currently jobless

I was a CO for 3 years I was great at my job but HATED everything about it, from the supervisors to the policy. A-Z it was a horrible job and every person who worked at Rikers Island can agree. Fast forward to July of this year I move out of state to be a PO. Things were going well then made a rash decision to quit. I have my reasons which it may have been a stupid decision bc it was my dream job but whats done is done. Since September I have been jobless and I'm losing all hope. I have no motivation and feel its the end. To make matters worse I feel like i will eventually lose my gf bc I don't have a career anymore. Not bc i think she will leave me just bc what woman would want a guy with no career. I feel as im going no where fast

    Cons
-Bad background(Regular job im fine nothing serious but most law enforcement jobs pretty much wont hire me)
-Hearing issue(Recently got bad news that i cant hear high pitch sounds so most law enforcement jobs wont take me bc of this, but in reality my hearing is fine)
-Bad back i cant do any hard labor. So any union job/Construction if its back breaking i cant do. Regardless its very hard to get a union job unless you know someone
    -No skills of any sort
    - GPA 1.7 bc i dropped out of college in my 3rd semester to work full time. I stopped showing up so got Fs GPA dropped from 2.5 to a 1.7 no degree. Its been 10 years and I have the math level of prob a middle school kid as i dont remember anything and i suck at writing papers.
    -Gonna be 29 years old

    Pros
    -No debt
    -800+ credit score
-Should be getting 50k+ from a settlement within the next 2-5 months.

I'm not sure what todo at this point. I'm thinking to start get a "regular" job first then try to figure out a career. problem is i need something to pay $20+ to keep up with my bills as NYC is very expensive. Im trying to go back to tmobile as they pay well $17 an hour plus commission but its not looking good.

My 2 pipe dreams i have are go back to college and get my GPA up to a 2.75 or higher then apply for nursing school. Issue with that is it would be a year of school then 2-3 years for nursing school so around 4 year or a little less total. Another problem with that is how intense the work load is. I know a few nurses and all of them say how they were studying all day everyday and im terrible at math and writing. Bio and anatomy im good at or would be bc it interest me so i woudlny have any issues retaining the information.

My other pipe dream is investing 10k and starting my own supplement company. Thats my passion and i think i would be good at it. Problem is i know nothing about business or starting up but im sure i can do a ton of research. 2nd issue is its a competitive market but what isn't?

So other then my 2 pipe dreams i feel lost and i have never felt this way before in my life. Ive never been depressed but this is got to be what it feels like.
Here's some real, hard advice. Your supplement company idea is stupid. Market is beyond saturated and unless you obtain a cult following of 1M plus people no one will buy your stuff.

Spending money to go to school right now seems like a poor choice.

Leaving the CO job was stupid. Guess what, 99% of us work jobs we may not LOVE, but are OK enough to pay the bills. I have a friend who barely graduated HS who made over 150K at his CO job bc he worked tons of OT. Benefits, Pension, etc... it sounds like your best option with your skill set and limitations mentioned above. If that is still possible, do that. Sorry if i sound harsh, this is just straight up advice based on your post.

Repped above for recommending Harvard courses. Going to go deep into those this summer when school is out. Also this. Oxi is GOAT for nightly studies. Phenylpiracetam + nic for exams and Caffeine + theanine for mornings. Obviously you still have to put the work in though.

Misc, I'm unskilled but won't settle for anything chit.

You may need to temporarily settle and do hard yards on top of that. It's the reality of failing to see things through. Think of it as a stepping stone.

I went back to college at 27. It goes by in the blink if an eye. Get qualified in something that you have a particular strength in. I was good at numbers, analysis and planning so I opted for a business degree in accounting. I discovered I also had a knack for law.

You have a clear sales background, get into marketing. Pick up a part time job and devote everything to passing.

I'm not sure why so many brahs think nursing is the holy grail. It pays well and there is good job security but I've done it for almost six years now, and most other dudes who have been doing it as long as me are pretty fed up with bedside at least at this point. Perhaps it's just the pandemic burning a lot of people out and this might be universal amongst all jobs, but nurses are not a particularly happy bunch atm. Expect to grind out a couple years of bedside listening to patients whine and wiping obese people's asses (the only department I didn't have to do this was emergency department, I guess there's always things like GI lab and the OR.)

Fortunately there is mobility and you can go into non bedside roles, I've done some house supervisor stuff and will likely go the educator route, but you're probably better off saving yourself four years and becoming an electrician or something if you're trying to get paid and have job security. I didn't think nursing school was the torture a lot of people pretend it is, but it's not easy and they give you a lot of busywork to do; if you lack motivation and don't find schoolwork easy in the first place then you're going to struggle. Nothing wrong with being a tradie srs

Remember that whatever you end up doing, you don't have to like it. Just spend less than what you earn, save up enough $ to make some solid investments/start a company and you can eventually quit your day job.

You got a gf and sound fairly healthy so you're further from rock bottom than you think.

I will recommend a book for you to read to get you on the right track: The Power of Positive Thinking.
