I'll confess my ignorance, I don't know anything about collagen other than that it may help skins, nails, and hair. That being said, it seems to be a much more prominent supplement today than it was say 5 years ago.
Does anyone here take collagen and swear by it or is collagen just another category that the supplement companies are anxious to prop up?

Should Collagen be a Staple in any Good Supplement Regimen?

Started using it about 3 weeks ago. I have pretty much chronic patella tendonitis when I run as a matter of routine.
Symptoms are about 80 percent improved over that time. Haven't had sore tricep tendons from heavy bench, or brachialis tendon pain from pulls (both of which I am susceptible to).
I will continue its use with no reservations.

It's more prominent because marketing is powerful and people want easy fixes.
Collagen is a sub-par protein source because of it's garbage amino profile. It's cheap to acquire and people are willing to pay ridiculous prices for it. You'd be better off just using gelatin from a cost standpoint.
I'm doubtful of an arbitrary 80% improvement outside of placebo. The research on actual joints and whatnot shows minor benefit which in some cases was barely meeting statistical significance.
If you want protein, buy a protein powder that isn't collagen or collagen-based (Eg. Isobeef) that fits your budget and you like the taste."I'm pretty sure your wrong, but care to elaborate..."
