    Question What's "German Clutch"??

    I've got an old(2008) manual SEAT Cordoba sedan. Sometimes when I want to put it into reverse, it makes a weird noise and doesn't move upon clutch depressing. To put it into reverse I need to press in the gear and go very left and up, by the way.
    When I asked my old driving instructor he laughed and called it "German Clutch." He also gave me a weird solution that works to this day: return gear to neutral, quickly depress and press clutch fully back in before putting it back in reverse.
    Is this common? Is German Clutch an actual thing??

    That happens on my bimmer 6-speed manual, but not just with reverse. Got in the habit of pressing clutch and releasing it and pressing again and then shift. Never happens shifting from one gear to the next, just when I go to neutral and release clutch at a stop. I think it only happens going from neutral to 1st and occasionally reverse.

    Maybe it is a thing then, huh. Could also be something that happens to manual cars in general, and not just the German ones. Pretty neat.

    German = broken
    Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit softly.

    Well yeah, but did they also not fully go into gear sometimes, when you were trying to go into 1st or reverse from neutral?

    yes but that is because the transmission is probably old / used etc, nothing to with german cars specifically - my old honda has that sometimes too especially into reverse

    you just go to neutral, release clutch, press clutch again and put it into reverse

    my friends old peugeot has that aswell
