So my wife tells me the other day I am getting tested for Covid
The conversation went like this
Patty: I have a scheduled appointment to get tested for Covid
Me: Are you feeling sick?
Patty: No, I just want to know if I have it or not
Me: For what?
Patty: We need to know so that we can protect others if we have it and take care of ourselves as well
Me: But do you feel sick?
Patty: No I feel just find
Me: You're an idiot
Patty: Storms out of the room
Day of the Covid test, Patty calls me
Patty: Hey John just got my results, they are negative
Me: OK, now what, are you going to stop wearing your mask, stop washing your hands, stop social distancing?
Patty: No, why would I do that?
Me: Why did you get tested then?
Patty: Hangs up.
Comes home:
Patty: Are you going to get tested?
Me: No.
Patty: You are so difficult.

Without symptoms or having close contact with someone with it. My ass wouldn't be going to a testing center where people who are known to have it go. Just an unnecessary risk imo besides you can be negative one day and positive the next.

They shove a q-tip up your nose all the way to the back of the throat. At least that is how they did it when I tested...I wouldn't repeat that procedure unless absolutely necessary... Certainly wouldn't do it just to satisfy my curiosity.

This is exactly how I feel. My wife has to get tested weekly because she works in a prison. I figure if she doesn't turn up positive then I'm probably fine as well.
Although, I do know of two instances (people I know) where one person was positive and sick and their significant other never caught it or tested positive. Weird.Age: 42

That was me, BH October 16th after 8 months of tv news, reading articles, discussions with doctors and no real symptoms.....i wanted a clear head.
I have 2 very high risk people in my world and i am not about to fk them up over an accidental slip up by me.
I just needed to know and continue all the reasonably careful behaviors to keep it at bay.
My test was done at HHS and was 1 Qtip 1 inch inside the nose, 2 circles inside and touch the septum for 10 sec, then repeat in the other nostril. about 1 min long.
Negative phone call 3 days later. There is an unspoken thing, we are iron brothers and sisters, we are to support each other and...It is our duty to support our brothers and sisters in the iron game!

Agreed however, as cases increase so does the odds of being infected, I think one can be as careful as can be, it's still no guarantee.
IMO other than a bit of peace of mind, I think testing once just to see if you have it is pointless. but as PP mentioned, the blood donation anti body test, now that is different.Air Force Veteran 1976 - 1999 - Cannabis Enthusiast since the 1960's

Here they are only testing people who feel they been, or told they have been exposed, and/or have symptoms. They dont want to test the wider public.
I had the test, back in September because I had symptoms, test came back negative, I had to wait 5 days to hear that. The test was not that bad frankly it took like 3 seconds.
I have to pick up my son in a couple of weeks from University, he has no symptoms and has stayed in his bubble, but he cant get tested. There needs to be more rapid results for folks who need to know. Not leaving him at school for 3 weeks by himself over the holidays while everyone is gone home. If you could get a rapid test I would get him tested, put him up in a hotel up there for a day or two so he is captive and wait for the results. Does that not seem logical? Please record my time/reps if I pass out

This is really the smart way to do it. Getting a random test one day and showing up negative means F all when you get it a week later and actually start feeling symptoms. It's one thing if you get them regularly and stay on top of it but random one off tests are pointless unless you have a reasonable suspicion that you have it.

I was on the treadmill the other day. A fat dood walks by and farts.
I smelled his fart.
That was good enough to know I was rona negative. This above all..

I was scheduled to pick my girls up from college today and got a call this afternoon that they were identified as close contact with someone who had symptoms and tested positive. They got the rapid test and got the results in 35 minutes - negative. They still are supposed to quarantine at home for 14 days because it can take up to 14 days from exposure to being positive. They'll need to be retested in two weeks and maybe tested again before being allowed back on campus in January. They would have been able to come home even if they had tested positive.
The girl who tested positive couldn't go home because she's from thousands of miles away and can't board a plane. She's quarantined locally here. Bummer for her. We're going to take her Thanksgiving dinner.
I'm a professor and had to be tested at the start of our bubble and will have to be again before the spring bubble. I didn't get the rapid test but got my results in about 36 hours.

I was surprised to learn that you can't give blood whilst on TRT, had no idea. Tried to argue with my Urologist about it since it just brings my levels to normal. He said "what if your blood goes into a baby?"
I was thinking Jacked Baby? But I guess that wouldn't be a good answer.Don't put that on me Ricky Bobby, don't you ever put that on me.

Unfortunately the current method of looking for B cell antibodies only works for a couple months post infection (symptomatic or not). T cells last much longer. In my n=1 study thinking I had it in January (had matching symptoms), I have been in close contact with multiple confirmed positive cases over the months and haven’t had a sniffle since then. This also includes a week at indoor & outdoor water parks in the Dells where we walked maskless down a mile long indoor hallway with hundreds of others. That’s a good sign to me that reinfection is rare or nonexistent, which is good for vaccine efficacy.
