Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the CDC death counts also manipulated based on their footnotes on their website? And co-morbidities were not taken into account.

Who is they? The referenced study
isn’t from the CDC. From the article itself:

“The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, for instance, doesn't have good data on how many people catch COVID-19 after being vaccinated, as it decided in the spring to track only serious, symptomatic breakthrough cases. The British study, on the other hand, used mass-testing data to determine how many breakthrough cases there actually are and how sick those people get.”

The link to the primary study is in the article.

And there are numerous studies that have implemented random sampling methodology to examine the effect of the vaccines on infection.
"Seen in the light of evolution, biology is, perhaps, intellectually the most satisfying and inspiring science. Without that light it becomes a pile of sundry facts -- some of them interesting or curious but making no meaningful picture as a whole."

Random sampling and studies conducted since the rise of the Delta variant would be more relevant at present.

Here's a more recent snapshot in the UK.
"However, after adjusting for a range of variables, the researchers found that vaccine effectiveness was 49%. This is a reduction from the previous round of analysis, which found the vaccines to be 64% effective."

There are studies that have looked specifically at Delta. Most have shown a relative reduction in infection between 40-60%, similar to what you posted. Here are a few.

On another note, protection against disease remains very high.

None of those links work for me, but from what I've seen, I agree 40-60% seems to be the current consensus.

Well, one is much older and got very sick, so him getting a bunch of treatments seems reasonable.

Or are you pointing out that if he didn't have the vaccine, he might have already died and the vaccine therefore wasn't cost effective?

    The latter

His wife was not vaxxed, also in serious/critical condition. Not sure how that worked out, one vaxxed on TV one not?

Vaccine leads to another loss of life here in IL.

I know, but not everyone who he offers his advice to has that net worth or the ability to over treat at the first sign of the virus. Didn't he decline the vaccine because he didn't think he was at risk of anything serious, and also say it wasn't necessary unless the concern was transmitting it to others?

I don't remember what exactly he said but I remember him saying something really stupid about the vaccine and having to apologize with some statement that he isn't a doctor, lol.

Israel has become the Covid capital of the world despite leading the charge on vaccines, in a clear warning sign that Britain, the US and other highly-immunised nations are still vulnerable to another wave.

He made a comment something to the point of, if your young, in your late teens or 20's and in good shape he didn't see the need to get vaccinated.

Got my first jab from one of the new, shiny Comirnaty labelled Pfizer vials a couple of hours ago. It is kind of ironic timing with everything coming out of Israel.

I won’t be shocked if I’m affected by mandates. Not really concerned but it’s going to be really bad optics for efficacy if that trend occurs here, and that’d be about the time (November range). That’s when they were going to approve it for younger kids which seems silly considering there has been 400 deaths in under 17 age group total since the start. I’m guessing most of those had significant contributing factors. The risk would seem to favor not forcing it on kids.

I know, I'm basically the only one in my family advocating for my son to be left alone. He turns 18 soon and will probably get it due to pressure. Honestly it's a lot of the reason that I ended up just getting it myself. My modest concerns about unknown downstream consequences no longer outweighed the inability to see my mom and other elderly family that gets their news from CNN. *shrug*

I actually don't think the optics in Israel are that bad when the numbers are scrutinized. The vaccine is still doing fairly well compared to unvaccinated people who never had covid. If anything, maybe it help push back on the obsession over number of cases rather than number of cases of severe disease. While it may all come as a surprise to the general population as to how the vaccines are functioning, I think anyone with a moderately informed mind could see this kind of thing happening.

I was hopeful they would have stayed highly effective for prevention, but nature is tricky. Obviously the data is still holding pretty well on preventing bad outcomes, but even then, elderly / immunocompromised are at a much higher risk than most. That is life though, everyone is going to eventually die of something.

    How do you feel?
