Israeli study shows 4th shot of COVID-19 vaccine less effective on Omicron
JERUSALEM, Jan 17 (Reuters) - A fourth shot of COVID-19 vaccine boosts antibodies to even higher levels than the third jab but it is not enough to prevent Omicron infections, according to a preliminary study in Israel.
Israel's Sheba Medical Center has given second booster shots in a trial among its staff and is studying the effect of the Pfizer booster in 154 people after two weeks and the Moderna booster in 120 people after one week, said Gili Regev-Yochay, director of the Infectious Diseases Unit.
These were compared to a control group that did not receive the fourth shot. Those in the Moderna group had previously received three shots of Pfizer's vaccine, the hospital said.
The vaccines led to a increase in the number of antibodies "even a little bit higher than what we had after the third dose", said Regev-Yochay.
"Yet, this is probably not enough for the Omicron," she told reporters. "We know by now that the level of antibodies needed to protect and not to got infected from Omicron is probably too high for the vaccine, even if it's a good vaccine."
The findings, which the hospital said were the first of its kind in the world, were preliminary and not yet published.
Israel was the fastest country to roll out initial vaccinations against COVID-19 a year ago and last month started offering a fourth shot, or a second booster, to the most vulnerable and high-risk groups.Air Force Veteran 1976 - 1999

That assumes all variables were the same. Does your wife roll 5 days a week sometimes 2x a day? Does your wife lift heavy 3x a week on top of that? I knew I was in more danger as I've been going pretty hard at the gym and not recovering very well. Time for another run of green tea. Also woman are way better at handling colds than men - thats science :P
We all will respond differently and lifestyle plays a role. The worst cold I can remember having was after running that Smolov squat program. My body was so beat after that my immune system wasn't ready to fight it.
I don't know if the vaccines work or not but the people who have spent most of their lives studying this exact thing say they do and my ass didn't even finish his Masters so who am I
My wife, fully vaxxed, wasn't as bad as I was either and my kids not vaxxed hardly knew they had anything. I don't know what to make of it all at this point. I did roll today at noon and my wind was gone. I'm rolling again tonight so hopefully a bit better. I need to remember to eat though because not tasting anything makes me not care. Which if we could find a way to stop taste and smell for a while that we have the perfect obesity drugLast edited by Jtbny; 01-17-2022 at 12:18 PM.

That is a problem. I don't think public health has been this politicised, partisan, money driven and dishonest since the great debate on whether long term smoking raises the risk of various lung diseases or not.
That went on for years and years with both sides funding research to disprove the other. Does that mean medicine and doctors were useless during that time?
Sometimes you need to step back from the BS and hype (both sides!!!). We're all going to have to be adults and use common sense, maybe the truth isn't either of the extremes (it will kill everyone without a mask/it's only a cold) and maybe somewhere in the middle. The real science is out there amongst all the BS, you've got to use your nose and do the sniff testFaith in Jesus first and faith in squats second.
Then other details will start to slot themselves into place.

I'm down for a yearly unless the science changes. I don't have an answer that is set in stone. I'm doing my best to follow the science here and as such my kids aren't vaxxed nor will I get them vaxxed unless the science changes and the risk/reward makes sense.
But its frustrating for sure. First the Trump admin made it seem like it was nothing and then shut us down, then downplayed it and pretended it would go away. Now Biden and his team only talk about it and make it seem like its the worst thing ever and we are all going to die unless the vaccines is taken, and we get boosted, and we get more of them.
My father was like you, never got sick, like ever. But he had so much crap pumped in him from Vietnam and then Dessert Storm who knows what was going on. He also never ever got the flu shot and would have skipped this one too. He died of an accident but was 100% healthy when he did in his mid 60's. Sometimes its just like that. I don't get sick very often and when I do it's usually because I'm over working myself. At least up until now so hopefully I have the same luck you've had going forward.Last edited by Jtbny; 01-17-2022 at 12:19 PM.

JTB I think it’s the luck of the draw genetically. Ill tell you though when I did get the flu in ‘85 it was a 4 week ordeal SOOOOO sick. I named it the Truck Flu because you’d swear you got run over by a semi. I think that bout jacked my immune system up to where it was invincible , lol.
If you go to a gym the best thing you can do is not go face down on equipment like the leg curl machine and not touch your eyes , mouth or nose. I keep a spray bottle of alcohol in my truck and as soon as I get in after working out I spray my hands and arms down.If you don't get what you want you didn't want it bad enough

Sounds like you might have got OG covid IDK. With the first one I got I don’t remember losing my taste or smell but had zero appetite for like a week. I thought it was awesome cause it was January, I was dieting, and didn’t know it was covid until a couple months later when the real symptoms were known. Yeah being over trained/under recovered is going to reduce your ability to heal / fight an infection etc.
Agree with females handling being sick better than men. Chicks are just tougher, probably has something to do with being able to have babies IDK. Glad you are back to doing your thing. Don’t be surprised if you get gassed and tired pretty quick for a bit.

If you lost your sense of smell, you might want to get or make a smell retraining kit. You can buy a kit for $25, or you can buy enough of the scents to make 20 for the same price. Other than cloves, the scents are all pretty nice.
Or I can dig up the stuf I bought a year ago and see if I have what's needed to make and send you one if you'd like.Could you define ______ for me, please?
