    New Kabuki Iron Plates

It looks like they are trying to compete with Rogue's new plates and they look deep(ish) dish. In the photos it's hard to tell. They caught my eye because Kabuki is about 3 hours away in Portland, Oregon and I could potentially pick them up. No sales tax in OR either, so that's a win. Going to Portland right now for any reason isn't very appealing though. Thoughts?

The 45's look pretty nice and made in the US. Not bad on price either. Are they in stock? I would probably not go to Portland..

I thought they were decent for the price but then I saw +-3%. I know that stock is an issue now but that is pretty bad for plates of that cost. Not surprising though, anytime I start to get excited about something Kabuki puts out I get disappointed the more I look into it. I think the only thing of theirs I'd consider at this point is their trap bar but I don't really like trap bars so I don't foresee that happening anytime soon.

They took a page out of Rogue's playbook, kinda reminds me of the vintage BEN plates....

Yeah I wish it was 2%. I'd hate to drive three hours to buy 45 lb plates that weigh less than 44 lbs. Wouldn't be thrilled about 46 lbs+ either tbh. We aren't the average lifter though.

Good observation, I'd be less than thrilled with +-3% on them and they cost more than Rogue's within 2% and wouldn't be surprised after shipping if they total out to more than the Rogue's shipped as well...I'll be patient and wait for Rogue to restock them lol.

Not sure. They look similar but SBW have a 2% tolerance which is nice. Also in Moses Lake WA so I could drive and pick them up but they are more expensive and Moses Lake is about the same drive as Portland.

Possible but unlikely. Iron Company is usually a reseller/retailer and doesn't do much manufacturing. It's more likely Iron Compaby rebranded them.

I've noticed that with a lot of plates and kettlebells that look exactly the same. Probably the same manufacturer in China cranking them out with different logos (if that).

    Shipping can't be cheap.
Good to see the USA making plates again.
There was a time many years ago 30 cents a pound was a going price.
Times have changed i guess and i think prices may drop eventually as many people are doing home training now and probably will in the future.
Home gyms will become a thing again.

I put a pair in my cart the other day when they were available, and shipping wasn’t expensive. Plates + shipping was $224.17 total to San Diego.

Nothing against using recycled steel, but for all I know (and most other people I suspect) most foundries are using recycled steel, so it isn’t anything special. The symbol itself just looks really hokey on the plate

Coop posted an uncharacteristically negative review of the Kabuki plates.

Key takeaway: He could fry an egg on Rogue but he wouldn't try it without a lot of oil on Kabuki.

Glad I went with Intek. Looking forward to 545 lb of these bad boys showing up in a couple weeks:

Missed that until I watched it all the way through, since when did we start measuring the finish quality by cooking food on them?

I feel like the only thing missing from those Kabuki plates is a warning clause explaining the dangers of weightlifting, with a cast in symbol of two men holding hands and wearing PPE to promote training safely with a workout buddy.

To be fair, I find generally non-offensive symbols like recycle symbols to be highly offensive. Take that symbol off the plate, and they don't actually look that bad. Of course then they'd be +/- 4%....

I have to admit, as soon as I pictured seeing that recycle symbol ever day, I crossed these off my list.

I'm not sure why even, but I feel the same way. The symbol just looks dumb on there..

I think the recycle symbol is pure marketing genius. Perfect for the EV driver that thumbs their noses at all the climate change denying plebs.

Yeah that recycle logo is quite ugly, gives off the vibe of lifting milk cartons on each end of the bar...I just seen the review too and the finish on them is hideous too.

Once I receive my Rogue deep dish 45s, I'll work on that set as they become available...the only few things I wish Rogue would've done is made the 25s deep dish as well and made full suits to match and complete the collection (2.5s, 5s and 10s).

Many companies in the US are producing plates again but because of recent political change you may see these places go out of business in the future.
I like American made product and will pay the extra cost.
Weights really are a one time buy and that's it so IMO they are a good investment if you need them.

If it's any consolation, most the vintage deep dish sets Rogue was inspired by didn't have deep dish 25s either. E.g., Jackson, York, Zuver's, etc.
