Thinking of leaving BMW for a Cadillac sedan

Recently bought my wife an XT6 (switched from audi Q5), and I've never enjoyed casually driving an SUV more. My 2015 M550i Xdrive (new engine 2018) is almost out of warranty, so it's getting traded no matter what. Any of you have experience with both make's sedans? If so, will I miss BMW if I switch? Is performance on the Cadillac sedans even close? Handling?

I will be getting a V8 either way, so I know power is there regardless of my choice

So you want to leave a questionably reliable brand for an unquestionably unreliable brand.

Source: Mechanic friend works at Cadillac and said the only somewhat reliable cars they make are the CTS-V and Escalade.

If I was in your shoes the only one I'd consider would be the CTS-V, go drive one and see how you like it.

I also like the ATS-V, that's more of an M3 competitor, V6 twin turbo.

Definitely on my list but that CT6-V and CT6 Platinum are beautiful cars. I've heard nothing but good things.

V6 just isn't an option for me. I like knowing I have the power lol

Sold my daily driver V2, car had an amazing platform in regards to performance just frickin awesome and sounded beautiful but sucked as a daily driver. Useless backseats, no trunk space, stupid seating position no visibility, thing literally drove like a tank, heavy af, stupid door sill was so high felt like you're crawling into the car.

I'm not sure if this changed with the newer models but I don't think so. It was also my job requires me to be in and out of car, picking up people so thats why it sucked for me.

Will never buy a large sedan as a daily again, either a smaller car or suv/truck.

V8's are the worst cars to get from BMW, terrible engines in the long run. I6 is the only great engines they make.

Chevy V8's on the other hand are fantastic engines. The Northstar was the only bad V8 Cadillac had and those are long gone.

This isn't really true. I used to be a mechanic years ago and Cadillac uses GM parts which means it's not any more or less reliable then a Chevy. You may get the odd touch screen going bad or whatever.

Cadillac was actually worse around ten years ago when they used there own engines. Northstar was a garbage engine.

You are spot on BMW V8's. Power is fantastic, but too many mechanical problems to maintain. Luckily, my new engine was covered by warranty, which save close to 9K

Cadillac consistently comes in at or near the bottom at JD power and Consumer Reports reliability ratings.

Why not a prior-model CTS-V w/the superchaged V8? 640HP vs. 550HP in the CT6-V as far as just that goes. I always preferred that generation.

Yeah I'm sure a BMW V8 is a fine car to lease but it's a terrible car to own, always hear about nightmare stories of people trying to get them fixed and giving up because it's so expensive and complex to work on. If you want a V8 German car get a Mercedes.

I have a 2017 red XTS. Not the CT6, but it is a SWEET ride. I also just bought a BMW Crossover X5. A tremendous ride.

Test drive a CT6 or CT6-V. I read somewhere the earlier Twin turbo CT6 had issues. So stay away from those

It links to this website which doesn't provide the actual list or the methods they use to determine reliability. According to them and what I can read BMW/Acura/VW is also trash. They list the stereotypical cars as being the most reliable like Toyota. Without knowing how they are comparing cars it's not possible to tell if it's a reliable or fair comparison.

For example Cadillac are they comparing it to other luxury brands or brands that do not produce luxury cars like Toyota? That wouldn't be fair comparison. Luxury cars have a lot more electronics so they won't be as reliable as a more simple car.

AWD mainly, but I may be wrong and the prior CTS-V comes equipped. This is will be a daily driver. I really debated getting an M5 when I bought my 550, but ultimately I felt it would be too much for a daily

Reliability matters to me, but I'm buying new (CPO if its CT6-V). Coming from a BMW V8, I'm not too worried about having to put more in

Honestly I would have a hard time getting anything but a Lexus RX 350 or other Lexus SUV at this point, without venturing into something much higher end like an RSQ8. Lexus just seems like such a solid choice
