It may have helped if the spin lock had a 8 or 10mm hex to interface with a power drill for quick adjustments?

Look at the finish on those plates... Brand new and they look like they have been used for a solid year or two. They are essentially spin lock db handles, but having the flat end makes them a little nicer. Would have been better is they copied the old IM Quick Change model, cut slots into the plates so that you didn't have to completely remove the pin to swap. Then you'd had a decent product...

The finish on the plates I have is not perfect but it's good enough. These are weights for a home gym, not a centerpiece for a living-room table. I am not too concerned as long as they react to gravity as expected.
Those are all sold out, but have you ever used them? I had a set a long time ago. They sucked. Good luck getting into position to do some dumbbell presses with 100lbs and that 1" diameter bar digging a hole in your thigh as you set up.Insta: flexjs

Coop showed a preview of the product on instagram for the upcoming review. He seemed to have gotten a updated design I have not seen before. It looked 100x better than the very improvised look of the ones in badass website.
He even had very nice pancake plates on the instagram post. The plates from badass look terrible compared to standard cap pancake plates.

Here's preview of new design. Equally functional as I do think both old and new design are way better than spinlocks. The new one just looks more "badass"
Edit: just realized it seems like a totally different company that's also canadian. Similar color sticker in end cap had me confused.

These dumbbells look quite interesting. Once you guys have used them enough to give a review I may decide to sell my set and buy some.

This week, I've seen at least 3 different dumbbells that have the same design as the Baadass dumbbells. If the IronMaster/Hoist patents weren't still in effect, I'm pretty sure fitted and/or slotted plates and the half thread would be being used, unless the tooling cost is prohibitive, which is a distinct possibility.

It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.
It's easy to not be afraid of tigers when you're sitting in your living room watching a television program about tigers. When you're in the jungle where the tigers are, it's quite a different story.

From what I understand the owner of the company had a machine shop and decided to make these. He didn't start the business with the intention of making dumbbells. That's why the plates are the way there are, because they are machined, as opposed to cast. Casting a plate will leave it with a roughish surface (unless high pressure die cast) and the paint will stick better. Also it would allow for having the weight to be stamped into each plate because you just build that into the mould once and done.
The machined plates are very smooth, so the paint doesn't adhere to them very well. He could sandblast them first to roughen them up and the paint would look much better, but that would be a huge expense. And also he could use a CNC to etch in the weight into the steel instead of using stickers that will eventually wear off, but again that would be a huge expense.
In a perfect world those two things alone would make this a much more polished product. And lastly he gives you hockey pucks with holes drilled in them for when you're configuring them with very little weight, so the plates don't flop around. Again, if he was able to manufacture a rubber piece that looked a little better this product would be world class. For me personally I will never have the hockey pucks in there because I would never configure them that lights (I think under 25 lbs maybe).
I did my research and I knew exactly what I was getting and I am not disappointed. Talked with the dude via DMs on IG an he is very cool and has a lifelong interest in bodybuilding. I would much rather support him as a fellow Canadian than some Chinese company or Amazon or just about anyone else.Insta: flexjs

Excellent explanation, Flex. I think the 'hockey pucks' is a brilliant idea, much better (and less expensive) than having to use different sets of screws.

One thing, coming as someone that has been using Prostyle handles for this, it would be nice to see the end caps with a 1/2" drive female socket so I could insert a ratchet or breaker to tighten/loosen them further or spin them faster. I use a sliding T handle and it spins the 5/8" bolts out pretty fast on my prostyle handles but the whole thing is time consuming regardless. Might be something to suggest.
