Yep...I did all that despite what I have been through. I dont see your point.
I have no choice but to get up and dust off no matter what happens to me. I used my accident as fuel to force me to recover and get back in the gym. Those numbers are there BECAUSE I was almost killed. Working out has been part of my therapy to keep me from just letting life run over me. From the day I was released from my orthopedic, it took me 11 workouts do deadlift 500 lbs again after not touching a weight for 10 years. That was my only thought when I was stuck in the neck brace for 3 months. I had been out of the gym for 10 years, but I used what I had been through to motivate me to become the best that I could.
I did not approach my return to the gym like 'boy wouldn't it be nice to get back into shape'. I did it with the same intensity that I would fight for my life. You might make fun of that....you obviously dont understand what it means for your family and others to 100% depend on you to put food on their table. I was almost killed and could easily have been left paralyzed. In my brain, I had to feel strong again to face the world going forward if I ever were to be able to recover financially and physically.
My wife made the decision many years ago, to give up her career, which at the time was with a very large national bank, and raise our kids. We have never had two incomes. Just me. Looking back, had she worked this past 20 year and even made reasonable raises it would equate to about 1,000,000 sitting in the bank post tax money. Boy who couldnt use and extra million laying around? But we chose a different route. One that I have had to carry myself through good and bad.
My injuries are very real, and I deal with them every day but I dont bitch about them or use them as excuses to justify my failures.RAW lifts

Wow bando. I am sad that you went there.
You want one... well here you go. The blue tarp is covering the dead body of the guy who was next to me. He was partially decapitated. With a broken neck, I unbuckled the 270lb guy and pulled him out of the wreckage because I thought it was going to catch fire. My mind was not lucid enough to realize he was never going to come back. He was missing half of his face. This is what was left of the helicopter. The part of the cabin that is missing, is such because the blade came down through the front of the ship and cut the top off of it. The trans went flying separate and with no rotors, I fell from the sky 100 feet to the ground.
My neck broke in the same way Dale Earnhardt did. The rapid deceleration of the weight of my head actually broke my neck. If I were wearing a helmet like I did at times, I would have severed my spinal chord.
You can bust my balls about a lot of stuff. But you just went down a few notches in my book.

I'm not busting your balls about what was a obviously a serious life changing accident. I apologize if it came off that way, but you certainly bounced back, physically at least.
I'm busting your balls about downplaying our military Veterans "cushy retirement." Having been in a helicopter crash yourself, it might be beneficial for you to watch Blackhawk Down and get a sense of what getting shot down in enemy territory is like. Fortunately I don't have either experience but I do have a lot of Veterans in my family so that struck a chord with me.Bro with mattbro95

It is fair to note that a Colonel in the Air Force gave up 20-25 years of earning power in order to serve. In scope and responsibility a Full Colonel would earn in the $170k - $300k in equivalent civilian work. The difference in lifetime pay for a military officer and their civilian counterpart would be well over $2 million. A large reason that military retirees seem to be overcompensated is due to this fact.
Also, if we relied purely on people who are purely motivated by patriotism there would be about 300 people in our entire Armed Forces.Last edited by eomrat; 12-11-2020 at 09:06 AM.

Just to be 100% clear. I recognize that we need people outside the private sector. Military is a perfect example.
I also respect people who are driven to serve. It would be very hard for me considering how I feel our govt has at times placed our young men and women in harms way for seemingly questionable motives. But the soldiers themselves are a pretty amazing group of people.
Also, I respect my father in law as much as I could any man. He is a wonderful, smart, overly thoughtful, selfless individual. He is the person that I am closest with that TRULY identifies as a democrat. It is through the insight of knowing him, that has allowed me to hypothesize how it is he comes to feel the way he does.
I came to realize he has no idea what it is like to wake up day in and day out, year to year, and worry about if you can make a living. Sure, there are plenty of things to worry about....but the idea of where is your next paycheck coming from is a big one. Never in over 40+ years, did he ever have to worry if there would be money coming in.
I relate it like this. Losing one's job is often cited as one of the more stressful events in life. As a business owner, at least in my field, I lost my job weekly, and monthly. I was always in the process of ending a job and having to find another. So it is simply saying that guys who are part of the small business community are especially sensitive to the heartbeat of the economy. I would say we feel it a lot more and dont take for granted that it will just keep on pumping.
Just as I dont hold it against people who have never had kids, that they will never understand what it means to realize how unimportant self becomes and caring for those you brought into this world becomes your priority, I dont hold it against people who have never had to make their way in this world.
To those people the economy doest seem to change that much. Were it not for their 401k's, their lives are essentially the same, in a good economy or bad.RAW lifts

Thanks man. It is not something I talk about a lot, since it is just part of who I am now. I also feel it is disrespectful to those who have suffered so badly that just living daily life is impossible.
The term PTSD has been cheapened, and I am embarrassed to even say it, because I think it should be reserved for those who truly have to struggle just for normal life.
Mine is punctuated, and manifests it self mainly in my sub conscious. Certain stress triggers or driving can trigger it. I have fought to never allow it to get me to the point of a panic disorder. If I ran away from it in fear, I would certainly be overtaken. I just accept what it does to me. It is the fear that will overcome you.
The hardest part is it causes night terrors, which I am not even always aware of, but those around me tell me. Napping with company visiting, its a little weird screaming while napping on the couch. When my brain goes there too much, it comes into my daily life, to where I am very startled by even normal things. Something like someone walking up to me from behind if I am seated working, even when I know they are coming, when they call my name or make a noise, I have an involuntary scream and startle reflex that will make me jump. It is the strangest thing and very frustrating as your entire body feels like it does when you almost get killed.
If that happens too much, and I let it get too far, it will degrade into a self mutilation. Mine is I cant stop chewing my fingers. It is a compulsion, and I will pull skin off each finger to the point where I am bleeding and even then I cant stop. Once that starts, it is really hard to stop. My therapist, said that is really common and people either chew or pull out hair. Since I my hair is going slowly, guess I am glad I only chewI have to make a joke about it since it is really nuts and makes you feel like you are going out of your mind that you cant stop, and you are walking around with scabs all over your fingers.
The big thing is for me to stay on top of it and not allow it to beat me down. The gym is my coping mechanism. It makes me feel in control of myself and makes me feel strong. My conscious mind knows just how fragile life is, but I think the gym fools my unconscious mind into thinking I am indestructible.
Weird to puke all that stuff out, but it is real, and it is who and what I am. I am sure I have seemed a little over the top with the working out stuff many times over the years. Maybe that helps put it in some perspective.RAW lifts

I’m still sitting here waiting (on the commode) for Elrounds PROOF that Trump rode Obama’s coattail on the economy.
He has had several statements thrown at him, but can’t show proof???????
Elrond, why when Obama care was ordered did every fuking company with a certain amount of employees cut back hours? Why did these people have to work at least two jobs to get by???
You can’t eat healthcare you fool!

Here you go twisting the argument to meet your agenda yet again.
You provided nothing current or credible, which is what was asked for.
Additionally, who said masks were 100%? Certainly not me. Please provide proof of where I said that? I said masks help mitigate the spread. You said they do nothing. Don't post it here though, put it in one of my threads so we don't clutter this one up anymore than we already have.

I said they are a false sense of security. AND I standby the fact that a cautious person does not NEED a mask to slow the spread, science can prove this, the fact that you need some article is BS.
Now how does this compare to Elrond blankety stating Trump rode Obama’s coattail? He heard that nonsense on the news outlet that is paid to discredit Trump, if they say anything positive about him they get blacklashed.
Obamacare resulted in employers cutting hours due to the higher cost of the plan, there was no incentive for a business to support it, the ones that did raised thier prices which hurt jobs. Many people lost thier 40 hour work week and had to get second jobs, especially in the service industry. Those are real stories.
Another fact is a state that mandates masks are continuing to see rising corona cases, up to near 3000 a day, the masks have been in place for months.

You saying he never provided proof, something you haven't done may times when challenged. In fact you just did it again... You were being a hypocrite.
For the 4,568,756th time, That's because mask only help mitigate it. It's not 100%
Can you imagine how bad it would be without masks?
While we are on the 100% thing, You failed to provide proof that I said that.. Hypocrite strike # 2

That’s an assumption, before mask mandates the cases were actually lower.
Two months into the mask mandates saw the highest cases in the summer, two months allowed more than enough time for the two week period of transmition.
Elround made the same assumption but can’t back it up, it’s ok, I’m much more interested in his remark about giilible people believing the economy got better, but in the end the Coronia lockdowns didn’t help anything, his news outlet will point that out without suggesting the dems locked it all down.

Of course the # of cases were lower, the virus was just getting wound up... You do understand how it spreads exponentially right? Guess what, summer 2019 they were even lower.
What?
Actually, never mind. I'll leave you to your stupidity..
I don't care about the argument between you and Elrond, I was just calling you out on being a hypocrite..
