Crazy to sell rogue sml-1 for Titan t-3?

I have a rouge sml-1 and am thinking to of selling it for a titan t-3 rack. Has anyone made this switch from rogue to titan? I know most go the other way.

My wife and I workout at the same time enough where constantly loading and unloading the bar for squats is annoying. So, a power rack makes sense so we can squat at the same time. Will I actually notice any difference in quality? With the money I get from sml-1, I can pay for most of the titan rack.

There's a significant difference in quality between Rogue and Titan, but where I find it be most noticeable is in terms of fit and finish. Everything Titan I have is spray painted rather than powder coated. Similarly, the plastic coating where it's used is not UHMW. In terms of the racks/extensions, my biggest gripe is that it just seems to be sheer luck whether the pieces fit together properly. I had to hammer in a couple bolts on my Titan extension to get the pieces to connect because the holes didn't line up. My Rogue rack on the other seems to be precision-cut; everything always lines up perfectly. All of that aside, the Titan extension does its job to hold my plates just fine and it wasn't worth paying 3-4x for Rogue for that purpose. Personally, I wouldn't want to deal with these issues for my main rack nor do I trust Titan's welds tbh. For the most part though, if you're ok dealing with the fit and finish issues and cost is paramount, I think most of Titan's stuff is serviceable.

Really depends, haven't seen a full Titan T3 rack posted here since they appear to have started using machines to weld (at least on the Titan Series stuff). I'd be curious to see what it all looks like these days, because the Mono's I just received are powder coated nicely and welds are on par with Rogue. However, the Viking press handles are clearly not machine welded and are your typical 'ugly but functional' stuff, although it is powder coated so for $40 shipped they were a killer deal.

FWIW, if look at the new stock photo's of the T3 those upright welds look clean AF. Would be great if they are using more precise machinery on their racks, clearly they have been taking things in the right direction with quality improvements these days.

Thats helpful. I've heard the same things about the randomness of having the rack align properly. I'm not worried about having the best of the best but do want a rack that I don't have to worry about. Cost is not paramount but function is.

Thanks, this is helpful. I'm leaning towards going Titan, unless a rogue rml-490 comes up on facebook/cl in the next couple days. I'll post pics with the new setup.

Don't forget to check REP Fitness, the owner posted in another thread that they should see a surge in stock these next few weeks.

Little bit more expensive than Titan but definitely something to consider for the centerpiece of your gym.

At least in the past, Titan had some issues with safety straps coming apart suddenly and j-hooks snapping. ought to pop up on a google/youtube search.

The fixed the design issues with both, even the best automakers have had catastrophic recalls. Didn't a Toyota batteries burst into flames, or their brakes go into failure at some point? LOL

Well, hopefully if you do end up getting the Titan T-3 you'll come back and post some pictures of the welds and report on the overall quality. I'm rooting for Titan that the changes they have made recently are more across the board, because who doesn't like saving money on essentially the same thing? Rogue R3 is $820 shipped (excluding taxes for me) and the T-3 is $559 for the comparable sized rack. That's the difference of a decent barbell, monolift attachments, or a good chunk towards an adjustable bench.....

    Recent T-3 QC, fit, finish

I had two Titan T-3 racks delivered yesterday, and they seem like they came from different factories. The 36" Tall rack, is much nicer than the 24" short rack in a few ways.

I'm not sure if the pics are showing up. But here are the differences I've noticed so far.

36" Tall rack has cleaner welds all around
36" Tall rack is more of a grey color, while 24" is black
36" Tall has glossy decals while 24" has flat decals.
The J-cups are completely different, The 36" j-cups are the ones that are UHMW lined on the rack side as well.
36" Tall rack came with Grade8 hardware, while 24" rack came with Grade5 hardware.

One of the crossmembers on the 24" rack I needed to remove, and reinstall it after turning it upside down, otherwise it threw the rack out of alignment.

Let me know if you want more pics.

This is might be little late suggestion

OP if you have decided to keep SML-1 you have 2 options the way I see it

    1. Make a 72” tall rack by getting the below

    https://www.roguefitness.com/infinit...conversion-kit

Both of you can work out on each side

2 .Get RML 390F conversion kit

    https://www.roguefitness.com/rml-390...ster-lite-rack

    RML-390F Conversion Kit Includes:

    (2) Monster Lite 90" Sticks
    (1) XML-30" Crossmember Pair
    (1) 30" Pin/ Pipe Safety System
    All additional hardware required

Issue with option 2 is one side you will have 92” height and other side 72” but you will get 30” depth .Even though Rogue says this is for SML2 and SML-3 there is no reason why you cannot use it for SML-1

I would go with option 2 given your situation
Both of you can SQ inside and bench inside on the opposite sides or if you get safety spotter arms one can work out inside and other outside

You will also have pull up bar option

I have SML-1 too but just for BP workouts
One of my friends converted his SmL-2 to RML 390 using this and it is very stable

The 36" was purchased from their site. The 24" was purchased from their ebay store (it was priced lower than on site). The 36" didn't include safeties, or band pegs, while the 24" did. The boxes for both were labeled "V2".

Titan's ebay store has the 36" short racks in stock, and the pics look like the more poorly finished 24" short rack I got.

I guess their lower QC stock goes on ebay for a discount.
