    How did you go?

    Thinking of sticking to guarana only for preeworkout for some caffeine

    I have before, it was good. I felt more focused and calm instead of hyper and just flying through sets. Better to be focused. If I do get pre workout, I try not to get something too crazy. Takes me away from the workout

    I might have to find an alternative, as even if I take a PWO at say 4.15pm, I'm still awake at past midnight. I tried working out with just a Red Bull beforehand and got tired way too quick.

    I fear that I am hooked on PWOs and just can't get my freak on without them. Firstworldproblems.

    I wonder about this with coffee. I have no troubles sleeping at 10-11pm, even if I dose at 7-8pm, but I sometimes fear I'm screwing myself physiologically.

    That said, I don't experience any anxiety or jitters or any other symptoms that friends of mine have reported after going cold turkey. Maybe it doesn't affect me as much as others? (Strong broscience)

    Trying to train on a heavy energy deficit without stims is horrible. Will quit pre-workout when I can eat at a gentle surplus again, until then its a necessary crutch.

    I do take a week or two off every now and then, and it helps with re-sensitization. There is a pre made here in sunny South Africa that still has 1,3DMAA in it, and its spectacular to train while on it - only use it for a month at a time though.

    Takes 300mg of caffeine at 5pm crew
    Sleeps like a baby by 930pm crew.

    It depends how large your dose is. If you take a regular cup of joe, you might be enjoying 80-100 mg of caffeine. My PWO portions can contain 500mg+ I feel that I need that much to keep pushing.

    Yeah i am also on a cut, and keep making excuses about using it when i feel that its bad for me with all the artificial crap.

    Gonna stick to caffeine for a bit and alphaness and see how I go.

    I have, and fell off the wagon, and quit again and fell off again. I train at 430AM, fasted, so it's fukin miserable trying to get energetic that early. I really need to quit for good though.

    I use them for morning fasted workouts. If you know what ingredients have an benefit acutely prior to a workout, I find it’s worth it. If anything for energy or muscle endurance.

    Since my gyms closed I haven't been using preworkouts

    I know in all honesty they are waste of money but I like the taste of them and they make me feel great.

    IF you are looking for cheap alternatives there are caffeine pills, they are pretty much 8 to 10 cents for a 200mg pill.

    I used to take a bunch of crazy pre-workouts and I'd be like putting multiple scoops as my tolerances went up. Then I went cold turkey for a while but when I started to work I kind of needed them after a long day. I only take 1 scoop of C4 right now and I might add a half scoop for days when I'm REALLY shot. But for the most part 1 scoop does enough to get me going, and I no longer do the whole 2 scoop thing. I realized it was time to stop when my heart was beating faster then my breathing could keep up. Felt like I was going to pass out so I stopped.

    I don't think there is an inherent difference IMO if you switch to straight up caffeine like coffee or a pill. The caffeine is what always affected me, and not everything else.

    I lift at 5 am. Some days a half scoop is needed but I skip it on days I don't feel like I need it. Usually take some 2-3 times a week.


    If I take all at once, I get the chips. If I take half when I first wake up, and half right before the gum, all is good

    If the only thing you’re chasing after is a pump, you’re better off taking 8g citrulline malate 30 mins - 1 hour before your workout. I get crazy pumps from it. Also tastes lemony by itself so that’s a bonus. It will make you chit tho within 10-15 min of taking it.

    Switch brands. I had one that worked great, but I wanted to beat every one I saw to death for the next 5 hrs.

    Yeah, I quit taking pre-workouts a long time ago. The benefits simply don't reward the costs. They'll give you a bit of boost to get better workouts sometimes, but the effect is largely placebo. Especially with what is available these days, 90%+ of the effects are how they impact your mentality. If you truly believe that drinking some kool-aid flavored cocktail of "energy supplements" is going to give you more energy for a workout, it can work to an extent on that alone.

    Stims are the only thing that have any real science behind them in terms of quantifiable effectiveness beyond placebo. When it comes to those, however, you build tolerance and eventually have to taper down for awhile. That makes your workouts crappier during the coming off/not having them periods than if you just never relied on them in the first place.

    Basically, they're expensive, have minimal impact beyond stims like caffiene you could get from black coffee, and aren't exactly healthy to ingest on any sort of regular basis. Just have a bit of extra caffiene before workouts on a randomized basis so you don't build excessive tolerance to/reliance on it and be done with it. Obsessing over supplements just has so little practical use in the real world. Having a tackle box of sups and vitamins like mid-2000's Ronnie Coleman is not going to be the difference between looking like you lift or not.
