Yes and No. I voted Yes, but it has it's benefits. You don't hear about many news/videos/stories without social media. The issue is that many social media pages try to silence you if you don't show them what they want. Clip culture is a serious problem too, George Floyd and majority of BLM riots have been caused by this.

Plenty well studied at this point that it has serious impacts on people's mental well-being that can manifest into physical issues. It can be assumed with the amount of people on social media that it would take a toll on society as a whole.
There's a reason you constantly hear of social media developers, engineers, behavior scientist types etc keeping their children from using it.US Army

********, twitter and youtube must come under public square or public utility type rules so theres no political bias or corruption allowed to happen with them.
People can make other sites to chit post on and put CT videos on etc.

As a frictionless system, social media can only be as good as the society that uses it. It comes to reflect their values, so if people treat one another with respect in the day-to-day, then it could be great.
However, it's not and that's for two reasons IMO. Firstly, it's a for-profit model based on extorting its users for content and monetizing that into ad revenue. Secondly, it's designed to exploit the human reward centre. It provides constant dopamine hits, thus providing an illusory satisfaction that incentivizes increased participation.
For both of these reasons, I would argue that social media's present rendition falls flat. A company cannot purport to hold the best intentions, and then treat its users like ******** or instagram has. As recent revellations show, much of our current division has been exacerbated by social media. As a "frictionless system", it propagated fake news and misinformation at a high rate... I think it was quoted at spreading on SM at a rate higher than factual information.
So -- how did it go so wrong?
IMO its the shareholder primacy model. I think shareholder primacy (i.e. putting shareholders interests first) falls into a moral and ethical gray area for a social media company whose primary users are also its target audience. Social media companies are encouraged on providing maximal value to shareholders, which can create a moral hazard. IMO a stakeholder model (by which the company has to treat shareholders and stakeholders well) makes more sense.None of the above constitutes legal advice nor should be interpreted as such.

It both harms and helps if you use a large enough scope.
No need to wax pseudo intellectual like the mental midget a few posters above me. We get it, you took a college course and jerk off thinking you're the smartest guy in your (mom's) basement. Unfortunately you have no cognitive ability outside of regurgitating whatever you read in a 100 level psych or logic course.Psych & handcuffs
