You have zero free speech protections on bb.com. Bb.com’s free speech protection however is to suppress anything they don’t like and not have the government say a damn thing about it.

I have never witnessed bb.com suppressing anything. I have witnessed bb.com banning trolls and members who do not follow its terms here.

As for your personal experience, I cannot comment.

Their ability to do that is them exercising free speech. And -any- alternative other than not using twitter (amazing concept I know) is the government coming in and telling them what they have to host - which is then a clear violation of the first amendment.

    This really isn’t rocket science.
This isn't a free speech issue. Its an anti-trust issue. They claim to be for free speech, but then will ban or block news outlets and as well as political figures if they go against the political values of the company. That is an anti-trust issue. You can't claim to be for free speech and then move forward blocking things you don't like.

Simply remove their protected status. Easy. Make them responsible for everything posted on their site. See how quickly they change their tune or go bankrupt.

And you think being “responsible” for everything posted on their site would result in more speech or varying opinions?

Oh it would result in WAY less. People would then stop using the site and they would go under.

Why should Twitter and other social media companies receive special protections under the law?

Great counter. A true misc. genius.

The government sues them for breaking anti-trust laws. In the case of Twitter either amend and follow a very specific set of TOS or Dorsey and other leaders risk going to prison if its egregious, massive financial penalties (think billions), or being broken up. Twitter initially (and still does) markets itself as a free speech platform. After they became one of the largest social media platforms on the planet they changed their TOS to allow them to ban speech they basically don't agree with. Brass tacks its basically false advertising. Twitter has to either be upfront and state out right they are not a free speech platform or start acting in good faith that they are a free speech platform.

I don’t know what special protections you think they get.

Basically they just aren’t responsible for content unless they are made aware of it or post it themselves (start with DMCA takedown notice if you want to learn more). Without that no website that allows posts, comments, editing, etc., could ever exist.

That’s really no different than anyone else.

It’s not a “counter” it’s what you run into immediately when you study the first amendment protection on free speech.

But it sounds like yes, you want the government to tell them what they have to host. You better have a really gdamn good list of what they have to host because you’re now playing god with speech.

But given that you have no idea what antitrust is about I highly doubt it.

    Exactly.

Twitter want to have it both ways. They want to act like both a private publisher and a public platform depending on what suits them at the moment.

If they are going to decide and curate what they remove from their site, they should then be legally responsible for what stays on their site,. Simple as that.

It's sad but sounds like typical Twitter activity. It's not a company to trust. I hope Americans begin to use another company to send their short messages in the near future.

I thought this another troubling read about Twitter.

"PIERS MORGAN: Twitter let Iran spew Holocaust-denying lies yet blocked a NY newspaper in the world's 2nd biggest Jewish community from tweeting a reply because it dared probe Hunter Biden. It's a shameful scandal that should outrage every American"

No, not at all. Completely wrong. If bb.com runs into a post that calls for violence and they delete it are they then responsible for everything else on the forum that says violates copyright law?

And you’re fundamentally confused about this publisher platform stuff.

    That’s a decent summary.

Under current laws you are right. I'm calling to remove and revise those laws.

Twitter, like other websites, receive special protections under the law that exempt them from responsibility. Fact. If they are not going to act in good faith those protections should be removed.

Publisher and platform are used as colloquial terms. Everyone knows what they mean.

Ok, you just killed the internet. No more bb.com, no more YouTube, no more comment section anywhere, no nothing.

Bb.com isnt a platform. It's a (to my knowledge) privately owned company with an optional forum that is moderated by pretty specific rules. DJT could come on here and block anyone he wanted and post nudes just to be banned like any other user that does so.

Twitter has precedent that it is a platform, and that Public Officials messages need to be able to be viewed by the Twitter users. Actively suspending Kaitlyn McEnany and the CBP guy go directly against that.

Twitter isn’t somehow the fourth branch of government just because Trump likes to get out of his mind on speed and post a couple hundred times in the middle of the night.
