I heard the guy who runs Trafalgar on the radio today. He's a political consultant, with no background in math or statistics. It seems they got lucky in that they predicted Trump, but they were just as bad as many others in determining the margins.

Edit: and he described a number of practices which indicate their polls are not representative samples. They ad hoc chase voters with a variety of channels, which is extremely subject to confirmation bias.

What Trafalgar does is as much scenario testing as actual polling, but in 2016, the Trump "how good can it get" scenario actually happened. Was is just a 100 year perfect storm or will it happen again? Seems doubtful, but we'll see I guess. If this year is going to track like 2016, the first thing that needs to happen is that the polls need to tighten over the weekend, as that is what happened then.

If the Blue wipe is as significant as it's projecting to be, the GOP will have to do some serious soul-searching. Big factor of the 2016 election was the amount of people who did not vote. That seems to have changed, and, if those votes are Blue votes, then it's signalling to the GOP that their brand of politics isn't popular.

If they survive the election/wave, then the GOP senators will have to push more left and away from the fringe, which I'd argue has alienated their party from many voters. Climate change, renewables, supporting our traditional allies should be on the table in 2020, but they're not. Instead its goose chases like Hunter Biden or "socialism". That means culling the tea party types, culling the deluded cavecels, shifting away from conspiracy towards greater transparency. Not to mention, formal participation in our democratic institutions, rather than trying to run roughshod over rules and procedure.
