Thereβs a lake up here that gets a winter draw down for a couple reasons. Itβs basically an ugly mud pit for 3-4 months. Lake front property owners file for a partial refund for the lack of aesthetics. Or so Iβve heard.
You are basically in the same boat (hehe). You should try to look into it.

That sucks for you (srs), but it has to be the way of the future. Cities and states cannot sustain the ridiculous pension systems set up by the liberals.
I feel bad for cop and firefighter brahs that are going to be fcked compared to their predecessors, but it has to happen and happen much faster. You can't work for 25 years and have a pension pay out your most recent 3 years average salary for the next 30 years.
Brb, contribute very little and get to retire on last 3 year's salary including overtime by 50 years old. Brb, get paid $120k+ a year for 30 years of retirement.
And I'm close to it because my girl is in law, employed by the county, and although she has a pension it's garbage compared to colleagues from 10-20 years ago and the union actively tells them to contribute to an IRA/401k because there's a chance the pension will be gone by the time they retire.
A more reasonable solution is a 401k all around and the abolishing of pensions. But folks that put their life on the line like cops and firefighters etc... should get a much better match than corporate or standard gov't averages. This also takes the power away from the government to steal pension dollars and run cities into the ground like has been happening/happened in MI, IL, NJ, NY, CA, etc...Last edited by DTRrex; 10-28-2020 at 06:32 PM.

I mean 25 years of working for the same place I think deserves a good retirement. Thats a long time working for one career. The difference is if contributions came from their paycheck or if they came purely from tax payer dollars. A lot of retirements with civil service that are non pension are the same as if you set up your own retirement plan just they do it for you, just like how health insurance is "included" in the job but really it comes out of your paycheck. People want to talk **** to me still for being able to retire at 50(I started at 22) but they dont realize how much money has come out of every single one of my damn paychecks to contribute to that over almost 30 years. If they had done the same thing and stocked away a % of their paycheck every single month for 25-30 years and had that % matched by an employer in a retirement fund, they could do the same. The problem is they didnt, they wanted that extra 200-500$ a month RIGHT NOW, and then they bitch and complain that police and fire can retire so early.

Ehhhh. You're a little off base there on the economics, but I understand where you're coming from and why you're frustrated. Your union should be pushing for a 401k program that matches something reasonable based on job risk, with local tax payers dollars.
The reality is, if you live to even the bare minimum of life expectancy, a pension in a liberal utopia like (former) Detroit, Chicago, NYC, Seattle, etc... Will pay out vastly more than you've contributed (even at an aggressive compound rate).
If we were to keep present pension structures I could swallow government employees that face real danger and/or pay cuts vs private sector getting a healthy pension. Your cops, firefighters, EMT's, Public Defenders, State's Attorneys, prison guards, CSIU's etc...
But the teachers, desk jockeys, bureaucrats, every other city, state, or county job, etc... nah.
I've got an uncle that taught his whole career. Taught history, loved the job, got summers off, etc. When he retired after 25 years of teaching (at 55) he made sure to coach and teach summer school those last 3 years. Because your pension is an average of those last 3 years (pretty standard). He was raking in well over $100k a year at the end and took an early retirement option to retire at 55 instead of 60 and still gets an $85k per year pension. He's 75 now and has already collected 3x what he paid in.
System is fcked boyo and as a tax payers we're not getting our money's worth. Time to switch things up.
No cop or public service hate. Multiple LEO and military in family, GF is government attorney, but I pay my taxes and am an finance/economics brah that sees sheeeit spending and resource allocation for what it is.

The funny thing is my retirement is actually with the Teacher's retirement system now because I work for a university so I am getting the same retirement teachers get...
Its identical to when I worked for the city which is why it transferred over. I am pretty sure they are privatized companies with the same agreement to pay you out the average of your final 5 years until you die.**worthless college major crew**

All work-related pensions should be fully funded, it's irresponsible to do otherwise. Also paid employment should have mandatory pension contributions.
Do both of those 40 years ago, now you don't have a pension funding crisis and social security costs just dropped a lot."A stupid man's report of what a clever man says can never be accurate, because he unconsciously translates what he hears into something he can understand."

What did you vote for in 2016? Your ANTIFA non-responding law enforcement and protectors are because of what your state voted into office.
Don't move, stay there and fight it with your vote. Fukc em, vote em out. I was raised mostly in California and would love to be a part of turning California red again, but I will instead be a part of turning Nevada red.βββUSA οΏ½ΡΡΟβββ
