You can literally put the skeletons of modern homosapians next to homo erectus and so on and watch how we evolved from chimpanzees millions of years ago. I mean, its not exactly something that is open for interpretation or debate really....

Personally though, i dont think live spontaneously arose on earth. I think panspermia is to credit for life.

but that, of course, begs the question, where did THAT life arise from?

Agreed on the point about it not really being a topic of debate though.

I always steer clear from literally anyone who’s trying to tell me they know the unknowable (like some people in religion and science truly believe they know the truth). But in my own personal opinion this reality seems much more designed than accidental.

We can talk about the meaning of what religions are and honestly I don’t trust anything that men have altered and had their way with. But if this whole existence is one big coincidence then that’s more mind blowing to me than their being a god or force that’s behind it all.
This body holding me, be my reminder here that I am not alone.
Makes me feel eternal, all this Pain is an Illusion.

Regardless of the contradiction aspect (depending on which particular religion we are talking about, there can be contradiction)....evolution does remove some of the need for explanation.

Without any science, and we just find ourselves in this existence on earth, it does call for explanation (and many of our ancestors did come up with some supernatural or religious explanation). Now we have a better understanding of how humans arose on earth after billions of years of evolution. Questions remain, such as the origin of life, and these are being/will be investigated scientifically in time.

It’s like if a child sees cars driving around, and imagines that cars are being moved by an invisible magic dragon, or ghosts whenever they move. As the child gets older, and learns about how cars actually work, he no longer has a need for that magical explanation. Sure, someone can then come along and say “well every car could still have a ghost behind it, there is nothing contradictory here”....but it is no longer needed, and in fact it would be somewhat odd for anyone to still postulate this seriously. Occam’s razor etc.

Most people these days are too primitive and stupid to realize how their understanding of the universe is going to be eventually viewed as the equivalent of people thinking the earth was flat, and this includes today's academic approach.

Nah. They don't have all the answers, but evolution and the big bang are at least based on science.

Will people today who think the earth is round, also be viewed as “primitive and stupid” eventually, in this belief?

I was more so talking about big bang and space travel and so on. I mean we hardly know anything about quantum science.

The big bang is a theory, so that means it's open to modification and subject to new findings. I don't think they anyone claims that the theory is definitive. Evolution, on the other hand, has a lot of physical evidence that makes it harder to refute. Personally, I don't find it hard to believe that intelligent lifeforms evolved after billions of years on a hospitable planet.

We can literally watch evolution with a microscope.

Of course this need not be the case.

Big Bang model does have physical evidence in support.

Going back to the OP though, if he is asking about whether a scientific model based in evidence is more far-fetched than something like.......thunder/lightning or natural disasters controllable through prayer to the gods, or people dying and rising again or walking on water....I mean not really. Seems like the supernatural things not based in evidence would be the more far-fetched than natural models based in evidence. To each his own though.

It's a guarantee that with the more we come to discover about the quantum world, the more we will discover how stupid we were for basing all our beliefs outside of it. Sound theories are great and all but we are without a doubt still in the early stages of understanding space travel and the universe. Current understandings of time based upon mass for example go away with quantum science, it's why we suck so badly at understanding it.

TBH I know little about cosmology/astro physics/whatever field. I do know they have some evidence that supports the theory of the big bang but to the average joe, the physical evidence that supports evolution seems much more accessible and 'irrefutable'.

I think the point being made is that no matter how much more we learn, be it in the quantum realm or wherever, we will almost certainly not be like “a-ha, the earth isn’t really round, it was flat all this time”.

Similarly, as tank and others above have mentioned, you can see the evidence for evolution in so many places (I realize this thread is all over the place), literally just start comparing fossils if you have to...this is not super different than the earth being round.

As for Big Bang model, it’s the best model that fits the data, does it have to be perfect, and have all the answers? Of course not.

I could be wrong but I took it as a general creation vs chance type question. Not necessarily all the lore and things that go along with who did what magical thing in what ever religious writing. More along the lines of it seems more far fetched that everything would come into existence on its own rather than being designed. That’s just me tho.

Well that's the kind of thinking that made people arrogant about their belief that the Earth was the center of the universe while laughing at the notion that people would one day think of that as being a primitive mindset. You are just dug-in on the current way of thinking about the universe and it's that kind of thinking that people eventually laugh at. Until you know everything you should always be open to being wrong, and we are very far from knowing everything, and there is no doubt that future discoveries will make current beliefs eventually look stupid.

So to be clear, do you think that the belief today that the earth is round, will someday be looked at, as primitive and stupid, or not? Is it arrogant to say the earth is definitely round and not flat today?

Also consider.... the people who thought the earth was flat 10,000 years ago or whenever, were not exactly using the scientific process to arrive at this belief.
