People who have had relationships that lasted a long time

Did you rely more on the "spark" to stay together, or was it more about your shared values, shared lifestyle, and common interests?

Do you think most divorces happen because the "spark" fades?

I think compatible (not necessarily shared) lifestyle and endless talking points (and openness) is what keeps people together. Although I haven't had super long relationships, the ones I would have liked to stay in longer were due to those. doing and talking about things together is super important because boredom is real. I'm not sure if people who have been in long relationships is a good audience for this question either, because a 3-5 yr long relationship is long, but a failed relationship nonetheless. Relationships that fail were bound to fail sooner or later, and so those relationships lasted likely due to desperation and oneitis. Perhaps someone who still is in a long relationship, 3-5 yrs is a good candidate to answer this question, any longer and staying together is likely due to high investment and unwillingness to lose it.

The best way to have a long relationship is to not marry a whore.
