Hope he enjoys his retirement and can mourn properly.

Srs question cuz I don’t know (I quit following mma closely 10 years ago) has he ever been outclassed on his feet? He looked fine this last fight, he caught mcgregor. You can argue it’s because they have to worry about his takedowns but so would some that can “neutralize his wrestling.”
The way he controls his takedowns and lands in such dominant positions is special. He destroyed people’s souls in the cage. It’s common for eras with dominant fighters to have people saying there wasn’t high level competition but there usually was, just that single person rose so far above.Tobacco prostitute

Khabib beat every man who stepped in there with him, but still not P4P. Jones has beat every man who stepped in there with him too, and bigger men, so he wins the draw.
For every man, there is a sentence, a string of words, that has the power to destroy him

I love Khabib and there is no doubt he has proved to be a very dominant fighter, but I find it hard to actually put him into the legend category. Legends are remembered for performances that highly exceed what others have accomplished and defined by unbelievable stories of overcoming adversity (The time Anderson pulled off that triangle in the last minutes of the fifth round after losing every round to retain his belt, or the time Tom Brady led his team back from a 28-3 3rd quarter deficit to win the Super Bowl, etc). Khabib hasn't exactly had the longest run as a champion or the most impressive list of opponents so it is hard to determine if he is actually that great or benefiting from serious weakness in the division.
I highly respect his reasons for walking away at this time but also hope after he has time to come to terms with losing his father and some more conversations with his mother that he will return as the matchup with Michael Chandler would be very fun to watch.

Either Khabib or Jones (career comes into question due to PEDs)
Khabib has:
1. Most 10-8 rounds in UFC history. By far the most dominant fighter in the Octogon.
2. It's debatable if he even lost a round in a golden era in the most stacked division.
3. Has never been made to drop a single drop of blood in the Octogon or had a black eye or dropped in a fight ever.
4. Top MMA World class coaches who produced no less than 20 world champions tried but failed to have him defeated. (Trevor Wittman, Mike Brown. John Kavanagh. Ray Longo. Mark Henry. Henri Hooft. Rafael Cordeiro.)
5. Beat 4 UFC champions in their prime in the best era of the of the lightweight division (RDA, Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier, Justin Gaethje)
6. Never cheated with steroids.
7. Was promised a title shot by the UFC way back in 2016, was sent a contract in to fight Alvarez for the title in Sept 2016 but was used as a pawn in negotiations and the lightweight title shot was given to featherweight Mcgregor. Mcgregor beat Alvarez and held the belt hostage for 2 years without defending it, further delaying Khabib's rightful title shot. So had to win 10 straight fights (in the most stacked division) to finally get his title shot whereas GSP got it in 3 fights and Jones got it in 7. Yet he still managed to get in 3 title defences. (How many defences would he have if he got his title shot in 2016? 5-6).
8. Was out for 2 years and came back from career threatening injuries without any ring rust and was still as dominant as ever. Dominated Michael Johnson with a 9 mm hernia in his spine. Fought Justin Gaethje with two broken toes.
9. A true champion by being a good representation of the sport. Humble and hard working - the values of mixed martial arts. Didn't need to trash talk to sell fights.
10. The greatest 3-fight stretch in UFC history when talking about opponent quality and method of victory

JJ's last 3 fights were all questionable and I'd argue he lost two of them. He's not dominant anymore and we're talking about current p4p. Sure JJ was it a few years ago but if we compare the level of dominance recently shown, Khabib is definitely #1.
JJ has a better resume for all time GOAT (behind Fedor/GSP/Silva) than current p4p and even then I'd disqualify him for always popping for tech.
p4p means pound for pound lol. Otherwise just put the current heavyweight at #1
Jones has plenty of (?*) next to his recent wins. Khabib doesn't.Last edited by bartosh; 10-29-2020 at 03:28 PM.
