I feel like I got hit by a truck

I hit the gym two days ago for the first time since the pandemic was starting. I've got extreme DOMS on my arms, chest, elbows?, and shoulders.

I use to lift regularly for a few years and had DOMS but never anything like this. I feel like a 75 year old man with arthritis (what I imagine that to feel like).

Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to mitigate it? It's putting a damper on my vacation experience. It's hard to sleep or drive.

My workout wasn't anything too crazy, just kind of testing the waters again in the gym. although it was frustrating to be weaker than I use to be so I may have pushed things a bit too far in that regard. About a 90 minute session full body workout.

I had been staying active during the pandemic as well working outside and moving very heavy stones and farm type work. My back and forearm muscles are just as strong as when I stopped lifting if not stronger, although things like my shoulders and chest have gone to crap. I didn't think it would be a huge deal getting back at the gym.

I realize this is a dumb question, but I'm just wondering if anyone has some insight. I want to get back into the gym again ASAP but it doesn't feel like a good idea at the moment.

EDIT: My age is 27 by the way, not 50.

    Perfectly normal.
I can tell time. Time cannot tell me.

Formerly LactoseTolerant. I'm not very imaginative.

Ease back into it gradually - assuming a proper program, the DOMS will dissipate as you become accustomed to lifting again.

Start out with every other day work outs. Pace your self and stay hydrated.

Do you have a history of walking in your sleep? You might have been walking in your sleep and got hit by a truck. I remember walking back from the bars in college at 2am and playing a game with my room mates. It's called "How close can you get to that moving train without getting hit". I never played it, but encouraged my room mates to.

You need to avoid resting as getting some blood flow and lactic acid back into your system will make you feel much better... so swing your arms around. Go for a walk. Ect

Do not just rest because you are in pain. Also you could supplement with 10g of glutamine powder. I swear by it but not neccesary.

I don't go to the gym anymore so above stats are useless.

Only do weighted calastentics in the comfort of my own home!
