MMA fighter or MT fighter all kick the same, it hurts like hell if it connects even one time. Sometimes that’s all it takes. There is nothing in the technique or anything else about low kicks that makes Ernesto Hoost kick harder than Justin. The difference would be more about timing and stance between the two sports, not the power of the actual kick and how much pain it causes to you or to your opponent if you block it with your own shin (especially if you block in a specific way to cause more pain to the opponent that’s kicking you)

It was absolutely nuts to watch. Like Terminator 2 where t-1000 came out of the flames and nothing could stop him. It didn't even look like an MMA match where guys are testing each other out, studying the range, fainting etc. This was just a brutal walkdown and absolute domination by the goat.

It felt like he wanted to get rid of all the pent up emotions as quickly as possible, return to his mother never to fight again. Or he signed the contract when he was still shocked that his father was gone so just wanted to get over with it.

    Again, strangest fight I've seen.

The endless pressure thing is a popular strategy, and it’s Khabib’s game, you don’t let the opponent breathe, you’re always in his face and in firing range, it’s very hard to do because you also can gas and get hit, but extremely high caliber and durable fighter like Khabib can do this to other top fighters. To me it looked like a gameplan or Khabib might have noticed that it’s working, and so he went with it on the spot.

He can still go on hes only 32 but idk a ton of fighters have promised to retire. Bernard hopkins promised his dying mom he would retire by 40 and then did some mental gymnastics initially to justify why he wasnt breaking his word, then fought on for like 7 more years.

Really all his mom has to do is change her mind or maybe she dont even care either way and he just told her that he was quitting because his dads death is still new and he hasnt processed it all yet. If he is still retired in 2 years then its really over and coming back after that long he would not be the same.

He will never have to fight again.

What seems clear is Khabib will be coach with javier to help his teammates.

They will try and make Islam new lightweight champ.

    Plus Chimaev etc.

Those sheikhs are untrustworthy and cheap fuks. You know how many times theyve tried to have boxing matches over in the middle east and some wealthy oil sheik is supposed to finance it and the chit always fell through because they never delivered and put up the money in escrow. The only fight i think they ever put together is Amir Khan fighting some mismatched stiff when he needed an easy fight inbetween KO losses. Bob arum was talking about Pacquaio fighting there for like 10 years and it never happened because every time the money never materialized. And pac had fought a few times in China and Malaysia to avoid US taxes so he and his promoters had a willingness to fight outside vegas.

I would be weary of doing business with them, they talk and promise a lot.

The science of the triangle choke fascinates me. The way Khabib applied it was a masterpiece.

Damn, still cannot get over that Khabib is retired. A part of me is happy that we will never see a Khabib that is anything less than dominant. The other part of me mourns for all the hype and drama surrounding his matches, he is basically the Floyd of MMA now and only 32. Followed the kid since 2014. It is not that he retired but how we saw his father pass away before he achieved his mission. Truly a character made for a blockbuster film.

Chimaev, Ankalaev, Zabit, Umar, and Makhachev all looking to fill his shoes. The mountains of Caucasus are a scary place.

I’m surprised many of you are amazed at the way Khabib went after Justin. This is a normal thing. Many fighters have this as their strategy, constant pressure, this closes the distance and gasses out the opponent. There is nothing “bear” -like about it, nor is it amazing, it’s how he and many other fighters sometimes choose to fight when they sense it’s working. Floyd did a version of this to gas out Connor, but he did it in the last couple of rounds, just walked forward (Mexican boxers style), and Connor gassed. Vitor used to do a version of this when he was young, Fedor also, Coleman did this, and Kerr too when he was mad. GSP also had this constant wrestling pressure as his game plan a few times in his career.

This is flat out not true. Replace MT fighter with boxer and kick with punch in your first sentence and you will see how silly it sounds.

The difference from an MMA fighter and MT fighter with the kick is that you can get through the MMA fighters kick on pure adrenaline, if the Thai lands on you, your bone is broken, you physically cannot continue.

Giant difference in technique. Thai guy throws his whole body weight and possibly cannot twist his body any more, MMA guy is probably kicking at 50% of his potential just because he hasnt practiced the technique since he was 8 like most thai guys.

watch this video, listen to the noise that is being made:

there isnt a single MMA fighter on the UFC roster that can replicate this kick.

    same here:

Simply put, MMA fighters dont have the flexibility that is required to kick that hard that only comes from years of repediately doing this one move for 5+ hrs a day since you were 8. It's why someone like Khalil Roundtree has camps in Thailand and comes back and destroys his opponent with leg kicks, even though his kicks suck by Muay Thai standards of fighters from the same weight.

Nah, I’ve been kicked by MT guys, In full contact sparring, and by Olympic Tk competitor heavyweight Both kicked and punched, MMA guys and Karate guys and so on, it’s the same thing. Depends on the specifics of the situation. Pain is pain. MMA guys can put more weight behind the kick if the situation calls for it, MT guys can ease up if the situation suggests a lighter kick. They all train with each other, Information Age, everyone is aware of everyone else’s techniques. Power of the strikes is also determined by genetics of the individual fighter. I would much rather get low kicked by a smaller MT guy than by a 260 lbs wrestler with no kicking technique. It’s all very individual and scenario specific.

It would be inappropriate to drop names, but yes, in full contact sparring I have been kicked by very good practitioners of various Martial Arts, and there is no such thing as MT guys kick harder than Karate guys, or MMA guys punch lighter than boxing guys or any of that. In MMA gyms there is endless low kick drilling, just like in MT gyms. In fact even the gyms are the same these days, you would have MT guy on the bag next to an MMA guy on the next bag, or even sharing a bag for the “kick for kick” drill. In fact the hardest kicker I witnessed so far is a former MMA Champ who is not known for his kicks at all. We are all one.

Yeah was listening to Danaher talk about its history.

Literally every other move in grappling has some kind of ancient history. You can find evidence in pictures, writings, books etc of every type of arm lock, shoulder lock, strangles etc..

But there was absolutely zero record of a choke using your legs until triangle was invented by a judo high school team in japan in the early 1900s. Everything’s been around for thousands of years except triangles, it’s really somthing that stands out as having to truly think about “grappling” differently.

100%. Khabib was never going to fight 5 rounds standing up at distance like stupid Tony. Tony gave Gaethje a showcase exhibition.

I think Chandler is the sneaky one in this 155 mix since he is the only dude who doesnt have a negative Khabib backstory. People can disregard his outside UFC wins and losses and if he gets on a UFC winning streak 'UFC Chandler' might fly pretty high.

Do you understand probability? Odds and stuff?

The fights over now, but consider what we thought before hand. And consider the odds beforehand.

Gaethje was paying $3.30 on a $1, meaning roughly he wins 1/3.3 = 30% of the time. My thoughts where this is a little over stated. Hes an underdog sure, but he had (hindsight is a wonderful thing) good wrestling, good leg kicks, KO power, a chin, and a recently improved fight IQ. So I thought yeah maybe hes 40% to win.

So theres an opportunity here if the odds seemingly are misaligned with reality.

If someone said purely "pick the winner" it would be khabib. But if you bet on khabib, you win $43c off $1. This reflects him being the favourite.

If you wanted to pick the "value" I thought it was Gaethje.

Easier one was Rousey vs Holm. Holm was like an 8:1 underdog = she only was meant to win 1 in 9 times. No way. Maybe in reality she only win 1 in 3 times. (of course in hindsight she probably wins that fight MOST of the time). So that fight was an easy lazy $25 bet on holm, happy knowing shes an underdog but knowing she had a better chance of pulling it off that people think, and if she does I win 8x.

I also think Costa's look, his image, and the both of their respective showings vs Romero gave everyone a false sense of the odds too, Izzy was an easy bet to throw money down on.
