First of all I agree with green energy and love Tesla, our wind farms and hydroelectric damns here in the PNW, but I think the comment from the oil industry guy had merit.
It would be supply and demand. If you stunt the industry and don't decrease the demand, the prices will soar.

My home state (ak) is almost entirely reliant on oil. Whatever happens to oil impacts everyone who lives there. When Obummer made those bad deals with Iran it caused a massive flood of new supply into the market and was a contributing factor to the dramatic drop in oil prices.
