I am normally not one to think pro athletes are natty but I met GSP in person once and in street clothes you would never guess he looks like he does in the octagon. Pretty normally looking guy tbh and quite short. I think he may be part of the 1% that are just super genetically gifted and he has been an athlete most of his life iirc so he had a good foundation to build on.

Because people have short memories, are lacking knowledge of history, as well as lacking MMA skills. Neither one of us here can say who the GOAT brain surgeon in history is, because we know dick all about brain surgery. Same in MMA, people who don’t fight know dick squat about who the GOAT MMA fighter is, but they still run their mouth because they watched UFC 5 times. In fact one doesn’t even need MMA skills to answer this question, simply ask those who do, literally every fighter will tell you Fedor is GOAT.

Jones is clearly THE most genetically gifted fighter, and a great fighter, but Fedor was a true Martial Artist, and Jones popped for roids too many times anyway.


I remember threads exactly like this one from a decade ago and people were saying Machida was GOAT, Overeem was GOAT etc. It’s interesting how only one name remains the same in all these threads

In 10 years the exact same thread will be on Sherdog or on here, and there will be all new fighters, especially after Jones gets his sheit kicked in by heavyweights, and Khabib comes back and looses, but Fedor will STILL be in the poll LOL

Jones, Silva, GSP, Fedor & Mighty Mouse belong in this conversation, without question.

Khabib is a beast and his undefeated record cannot be understated. However, number of successful title defenses has to be a consideration for GOAT talk. It's too bad he retired at 32, while he was at his absolute best; he certainly had the tools to hold the LW belt, for a long time to come.

Conor is a great fighter and an excellent entertainer, but doesn't belong anywhere near this topic.

Or maybe they are just telling you the correct answer. Why didn’t they name someone else? Why do all these great fighters, like 99% of them name Fedor?

By the way, Fedor does not name someone else. Because he too knows the correct answer. In fact I do not recall anyone asking him such a question, because even the reporters realize that it’s like if they would be asking a President of USA who the President of USA is. They know they are looking at him. No need to ask.

Quality of opposition for weight cutters and in 175 compared to top heavyweights in the world? Your argument is not convincing to me, thou GSP is a fine answer. Thing is thou, Fedor faced a dozen top 10 guys in his weight class, as did GSP, but you can’t compare heavyweights to weight cutters. Fedor faced literal monsters. Imagine GSP fighting someone 40 lbs bigger then him on regular basis.

When your peers say you’re #1, you’re #1. 99% of fighters including GSP say Fedor is best. There is a reason why they say this.

Voted Jon Jones, but I'm admittedly a casual and only started watching within the last 10 years, so my opinion is not going to be as valuable as some of the more avid fans here. I like GSP too but I haven't watched all of his fights yet.

This is a normal thing thou. When AA was on top people legit posted that AA is GOAT. Machida too. Saku. BJ Penn, Matt Hughes, all these guys were voted by noobs as GOATS. Just all depends on when people started watching.

Entire armies of fans thought Tito was GOAT. Frank Shamrock etc. And they would argue with you just like the current Connor or Jones or GSP noobs. In 10 years new fighters will have noob fans who will call them GOATs too, but Fedor will still be in the poll at or near the top, same as he was 20 years ago LOL
