    Leasing Cars are Very Tempting

I am buy cash or huge down-payment finance car shopper then ride it into the ground, but I must say getting into a brand new vehicle every two-four years feels good. You get it fresh from the factory untouched in any way. Financially it is not a smart idea but as an enjoyment factors it's 100% fun especially if you do not have any other vices in life. COVID-19 makes you honestly think about Yolo.

A friend of mine leases the cheapest japanese car in the 250-300 a month range. He doesn't tell me how much he puts down though. He doesn't care about cArs but he depends on them and doesn't want to deal with headaches.

I think better strategy is to get a beater for commuting and a hobby car to play.

How is leasing a bad thing again, vs financing?

I keep hearing financial geniuses on here carrying on about it, but if you're running your taxes the right way how exactly is leasing a terrible thing?

i get it. especially if you're not the type who wants to do their own oil changes and repair jobs. you'll never not have a car payment but you'll also always have something new, in shape, up to date on tech etc

cars in general don't make much sense financially if you always want something nice. but if you can afford it, i'm usually on the side that says go for it. life is short enough and you spend a whole lot of time using your vehicle. enjoy it.

    Leasing is an excellent option:

    1. Lower payments sibnce you only pay on the depreciation

    2. You're always in warranty

    3. If you want the newest model every few years, it's great

    4. If you decide you want to keep the car, you can finance the residual balance.

Most people against leasing are concerned with mileage limits and now owning the car. For mileage, choose what best suits your lifestyle. 10, 12, or 15k miles a year. If you go over that, the penalty is a few cents per mile that you pay at the end UNLESS you buy out your lease/finance the residual.

As far as owning the car, if you're financing, you still don't own it. The bank does.

At 250-300 a month he probably puts 0 down.

I know you can get a new Subi Impreza lease with like 3k down @ $139 a month before taxes and fees. Civic with zero down is $250 right now.

The problem with beaters, is they can break down on you any second without warning. You have no idea how many times I've sat for hours because my car didn't start again in the parking lot or some chit. Rarely happens with brand new cars unless you get a beemer or other high tech german automobile where the electronics run through everything and if one thing is off, the computer blocks the car from starting.

I lease 2 new cars every 2 to 3 years. Not a single fuk has been given about maint. or reliability since I can remember. Usually pay 6 to 700 a month combined for both vehicles. 0 Down lower mileage leases. They each get 1 oil change a year and I'm good to go.

After dealing with headaches on modern cars, leasing does have it appeals. Of course it's not a smart financial move, but neither is a $2k cell phone.

German cars in particular the maintenance costs are getting out of control. $400 oil change, $1200 brake job, etc.

I don't even have kids yet, but I value my time so highly, that the bull**** with maintenance would be worth considering leasing.

Why not just rent a car if you cannot afford one? I usually do exactly this and it causes me no problems. Just choose the service wisely, personally I go for Real Car *** but they are NY based so if you live somewhere else you should check your regional rentals. Quite cheep and convenient if you ask me.

It is about annual cost of ownership. People get caught on just the monthly payment and don't factor in resell value.

Leasing costs a lot more for almost everyone with very few exceptions.

Finance Costs - Resale Value < Lease Costs

Basically even though the monthly payment is higher on a Financed vehicle the cost to drive it is higher in 99% of cases.

People get caught on "monthly payments" while ignoring the actual cost to drive the vehicle.
