    Straight arm pulldowns vs pullover

Currently on my week day full body workout, I do plate-loaded lever pullovers, but lately been thinking about switching to straight arm pulldowns.

Any advantage to doing them instead?

    Thoughts?

Has anyone used the lat pullover machines that Dorian used? Are they good?

The nautilus? No I haven’t, but the machine and lever plate loaded ones (like I use) are the same concept.

Do you feel it solely in the lats?

People generally love the Nautilus ones.

Pulldowns are more difficult if you go heavy as there may not be a good way to brace yourself against the resistance, whereas with a machine you can strap in and go heavy without issue. Range of motion is also shorter at the top with pulldowns. I do think it is worth giving the pulldowns a try, but consider setting up 2 tricep ropes instead of a straight bar to give more range of motion at the bottom.

You know just because it worked for a pro bodybuilder doesn't mean it's going to work for everybody.

I call them cable lat pull ins.
I use separate handles that have long loop on each handle so when i pull in i can go past the waist for a full contraction of the low lats.
You can maneuver your body around to get the right lat feel for you compared to barbell or DB pullovers.
Staying more upright you hit the low lats with more tension, bending more over the high lat area get more of a hit.
That being said i like the DB pull overs for the high lat that ties in to the arm pit area.
Many people go way to heavy and it becomes more of a tricep/lat pull over than just lats.
You need to really focus on trying to make the lats do as much work as possible.
With both of these i keep a slight bend in the elbow and lock them there without any more bend.
This helps it be a little more elbow friendly.

The rope suggestion is good. Today is upper day so I’ll give it a try before I do my cable rows and pull downs.

Next time I see the hammer strength pullover free when the gym reopens open I'll remember not to use it. Think Ronnie did squats too. I'll avoid them as well.

Good. It's important to be cautious in this sport.

I would add straight Arm work in for sure it translates into front lever so well.

The pullover machine is likely objectively better in all ways. (unless it's a crap brand)

But. At no point does that mean it's better at all times and situations. Variation its self can drive some new adaptations. (and ofc be more fun to change out)

**I actually like rope pullovers laying on a bench much as you would do a dB pullover.**

Cable pull ins never felt great to me, but with a band.. I torched my lats, but I honestly have very little time if any for db pullovers tho due to the resistance profile.
