Went up by 2.5kg on squat now I'm 8 reps short

Hi guys, ok so I went up in squats after getting 32 reps in 4 sets (105 to 107.5kg) now I am about 8 reps short, is this normal? I know I may be short by a bit as it is heavier but 8 reps seems a lot considering it is only 2.5kg increase

Peaks of performance happen. Progression is not always uniform. I wouldn't worry.

Wait you mean you lost 2 reps a set?
That's a bit high for only 2.5 increase but as SP said performance isn't linear.

You may have just had a bad day. May have been tired. May have not eaten enough or were dehydrated.

How did your last reps feel? Almost failure? How many days between squat workouts?

Pushing for those last reps could have fatigued you heavily, and if you didn't have enough rest/recovery between workouts then you were still fatigued when you squatted 2.5 more. Just keep going, it's normal.

Could be this. I used to lose my mind when I seemingly regressed in a workout, but it comes back. Just keep lifting, be sure to recover, and don't worry about it.

There's no "normal", just what it is. You may have had a good grind the workout before which made the post-increase workout seem poor, even if you didn't have a bad day. Either way, it's one workout and 8 reps over 4 sets. Start to worry if you can't progress in future workouts.

Is that considered a large loss? When I hit 8 reps x4 on squats, I increase by 5lbs and start over with 5x4 and add 1 or 2 reps (total, not per set) each session and increase the weight again when I hit 8x4, or any combination of reps per set that give me 32 across. I figured that was normal?

For me though it always means reverting to a lower RPE if just 8s instead of 9s... are you attempting max effort every set even when you increase the weight?
