This is why I always recommend self-employment as the goal for young tradies . Put your time in and learn as much as possible when starting out, don’t just go through the motions. If not, at least find a good employer who will treat you well but especially in the trades that can be tough.

When it’s too hot/cold/wet? I go home. Sometimes there are deadlines that have to be met but most people have to deal with that at some point in their life. Besides, when you push yourself it builds mettle.

Officels. Part of my job is to manage tradies, and I can assure you they are some of the coolest people on the planet provided you don't piss them off. They get in a 6:30 and they leave at 3:30. They make really good money, will always have work, and can work with their hands. Granted a lot of them are alcoholics or have a crippling nicotine addiction, but their quality of life is pretty solid. These guys never went to college, but make enough money to support a family and have like zero debt. The second they're eligible to retire, they're out and will have bought a house and moved to Florida.
