I personally don't give any fuks about traffic enforcement like that - not my cup of tea, BUT there have been numerous studies showing increased citations in areas lead to fewer fatal vehicle collisions. It's not my cup of tea and it's also a good way to burn bridges with communities because who likes getting a ticket? But it still has a purpose. I know at my department we have a few roads where we'll have a fatal TC a year or so on them, and those are generally the roads that get the most traffic enforcement. It works because I've heard friends say stuff like "Don't drive fast on xyz road, the cops are always pulling people over there". Most of these fatal TCs involve young males speeding and being dumb teenagers - I was one. Getting pulled over and getting a ticket means they're less likely to repeat the behavior because they know the behavior has consequences. You're right. This is not community policing, this is part of enforcing laws and keeping the city a safer place. Also, PD's and cities get such a low percentage of money from the traffic citations it's not even worth it. Parking cites are the biggest money generator at the PD. Almost all of that money goes to the city, opposed to traffic cites where the money goes to the court / state.

I can't speak for every department but the two I've worked at have had a ridiculous amount of community policing. I could tell you the names of dozens of local business owners and their staff just from interacting with them regularly. We go to elementary schools all the time to read or do whatever else. Interact with teachers enough that they invite us to their little bake sales or class play or whatever is going on. We have a PD / citizen flag football game once a year. Could legit go on and on about community policing. It's there. But I also work for a suburb, so we have the time and resources to do stuff like that. For bigger cities, you constantly have hundreds of calls for service holding, probably under staffed because people leave to get paid more and work less in the suburbs, and in your free time if you have any, you'll be writing reports or patrolling a crime ridden area, you just don't have the time and resources to do a lot of the community policing type stuff.



Well yeah that's stupid. States like CA that have all these ridiculous restrictions and then different rules for the police are dumb. There shouldn't be any of the "rules for thee and not for me" type stuff, which the obvious exceptions of things like lights and sirens to get to emergencies faster.

Police here are actually really cool, people they pull over usually deserve it, running stop signs is a big issue here and a lot of accidents happen because of it; whole city only has 2 traffic lights and the rest are stop signs. There is also a big problem with drunk drivers since there is a college campus here, and right across the street a large apartment complex, so kids get drunk at parties then drive home, so the police just sit around there. Some people complain but they sometimes get 10+ DUIs during the weekends.

Other than that, they rarely stop anyone unless it's very egregious speeding.

Edit: Thinking about it, almost the entire police force lives in the city, or near it, and it's only a population of ~13k people (that includes the 3500 or so inmates at the prison). So they are more 'part' of the community, rather than a big city were they don't know a lot of the people on a more personal level.

Easier to community police when you actually are a part of the community that you police in.

I wish there would be a nationwide CCW permit. The cities I've visited where I'd most want to carry a gun are always the most crime ridden. NYC, Chicago, Baltimore, anywhere in Jersey..........surely a coincidence......

Denver had (or has) something like this for a long time . . . and all the cops basically gravitate to parts of town that are better but still qualify as "living within city limits". For a long time, the popular "blue ghetto" was this odd strip of land on the edge of Denver that stuck out along a border with an ok neighborhood. Now I think there's another popular area that's similar.

Now those are pretty safe neighborhoods.

That's a good thing. Do you want police to be legally bound to enforce laws? No. That would be ridiculous. Now, of course being legally bound to enforce laws where someone is in danger is the counter argument to that. But what would constitute where someone is in danger? Danger from great bodily injury or death, surely, like an active shooter situation. But do you want some idiot with a gun be legally bound to enter a dangerous situation like that? Reality is they would probably do more harm than good. There have been exponentially more situations of cops putting themselves in dangerous situations to help people, than there have chicken chit cops not protecting someone, but forcing them to act could cause them to shoot innocent people. Just a reality. Not all cops are good at their job, just like anything else.

The sole issue I'm getting at with my comment is that we need our firearms for protection because the police are not under a duty to protect us. There are legitimate reasonable reasons for us to have access to and own firearms in addition to preservation of our rights and protecting ourselves from a tyrannical government.

gun rights were just one of the issues which were at play here, another were all the riots, all the pandering to groups like BLM and antifa, liberal politicians dismissing charges and releasing people who had been arrested for felony rioting and arson. Trump was trying to stop the riots while the democrats across the board all supported it. that really pissed off alot of americans.

In today's market? Good luck. Everything is selling like hot cakes and there's 1,000 other people that will step in and buy whatever you're looking at. The only time you'll get a response is after you pay and they need the FFL info. This doesn't apply to every seller on GB but there's a lot like this.
