    Question about Shrug/deadlift/trap bar?

Hi, I'm looking at getting a shrug/deadlift/trap bar but not sure which size? I see that you can get them in 5ft, 6ft and 7ft but would the 5ft one be considered the standard size that will take a decent amount of weight? just looking to do a few trap/shrug exercises and some deadlifts.

    Would the following be enough?

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Reebok-Ol...UAAOSwy7pfdbhW

They seem pretty expensive for what they are I think, looking for a decent sturdy one as have read that some cheaper branded ones are quite poor and the welding in the corners can start to crack, looking to only spend around £150 if I can get away with that for a decent one, based in the UK.

Any help on this issue would be most appreciated!

    Thanks

Would the following be considered decent? I'm presuming it is standard size 5ft:

Then again, the following one is cheaper, a bit bigger I think also, not sure if it is considered a junk brand or decent though?

I think I may just go for the following as it's a decent price and a decent brand and weighs 32kg so should be decent taking all those things into account?

If using it for deadlifts, I would want to know the sleeve length before ordering. The one you linked in the first post only has 8" sleeves, which are shorter than the ones even on my curl bar.

Does the powerhouse fitness one state anything about sleeve length? please forgive my ignorance but I'm not sure where it would state it on the page:

I couldn't find it anywhere on the page. If it were me, I would try to get that info before ordering.

    * Edit: I looked on Amazon's Q&A and there are 4 different answers: 40cm (15.75"), 13", 10" and 12.5". For a point of comparison, the sleeves on my Rogue trap bar are 16" and the ones on my York are 14.25".

Ok thanks, will contact them and ask, what would the minimum measurement be that would make it acceptable? would you say anything above 14" inches?

That depends on plate thickness and collars, but I'd want at least the 14". I've used bars with shorter sleeves at the gym before and the spring clips were so close to the edge that they had to be adjusted every set to keep them form sliding off.

Are these open ones considered to be better than the ones that go all the way round?

powerhouse responded and confirmed that the measurement of each sleeve is 345mm each collar
so 13,5 inches each side, would this be considered a decent amount of sleeve?

It's just a matter of preference. The open ones will give you a little more room, but how much that matters depends on what you're doing with the bar and what you're comparing it against. I'm 6'1" and have long femurs, but have never used a trap bar where I was hitting my knees on deadlifts.

If you're using metal plates, that's probably 6 45s per side w/ the collar. I don't know what you deadlift or whether you also have a couple 100lb plates laying around, so for you to decide.

I'm not sure how the lb translates into KG, I have quite a few of the following weight plates:

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cast-Iron...4AAOSw6JlfccpW

I have a mixture of 20kg, 15kg, 10kg,5kg, 2.5kg probably around 300kg in total so not sure if the 6 45's you refer to would be 6 x 10kg each end?

With regards to what I could deadlift, I've never actually done them before but I have a squat rack and I currently am squatting 55kg each end plus the bar which is 20kg so 130kg in total which I believe is around 300 pounds/LB so not sure if that indicates what I would roughly be able to deadlift weight wise? just trying to figure out if the sleeve length of the powerhouse one will be enough length wise to be able to get a decent amount of my weight plates on each end to really push myself.

Really not sure if I could deadlift 100kg each side as including the bar I would be then deadlifting 232kg in total, I may only be able to do maybe just over half of that so on that premise it seems that 13.5 length sleeves will be enough.

Just an update, I went for the powerhouse fitness one, very pleased with it as it's very sturdy and good quality, cost £180 compared to other brands that you can get for around £120, I would say that it's worth paying out the extra £60 as this one is very solid and good quality.

Even though I sold my rack, I got the Titan Fitness rackable trap bar:

I got it because I can load it up with as many plates as a regular 7ft Olympic barbell. The weight horns on a typical trap bar doesn't really allow you to load it up with much deadlifting weight ... especially if you're using bumpers.
