    I need advice

Hi! I was hoping for some advice surrounding what kind of calorie intake I should be aiming towards based on my goals. I’m 16 years old, 5’11”, and about 170 pounds. I exercise everyday, lifting three days in a row (different muscles each day) and then a day of either cardio or throwing (I throw discus and shot put for the track team). I definitely have some fat on me, but I also have quite a bit of muscle. Goal wise, I am trying to work towards a more power lifter type build as in lots of muscle along with some fat (also just like a lot of Olympic throwers). I don’t want washboard abs or anything like that, just being big is my goal. This being said, I still am not sure whether I should start eating at a calorie deficit or surplus. I would like to lose some of the excess fat I have right now (again not all of it as I don’t want to have to have such crazy diet constraints). At the same time, I’d like to continue building as much muscle as possible. So I’m not sure whether I should just focus on building muscle, as that will start to decrease my body fat percentage anyway, or so whether I should start by just cutting fat. Either way I’d still be focusing on eating as much protein as I can. Sorry, I know that’s kinda confusing. Anyway, any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!!

If you're not severely overweight, or obese, it's almost always best to focus on gaining muscle first. Get a solid base before trying to cut. There is an exercise forum here where you can check out professionally-written programs, like a powerlifting program. We also have a nutrition forum where you can learn about dieting for your goals. Here's some links:
