I only drink tea these days, when I did make coffee I used to follow the directions, found that was always too strong though

serious answer, I put in one heaping scoop for every 2 cups, I'd guess the scoop is a tablespoon

When I'm making drip coffee I do 2 tablespoons of coffee per cup of water. Turns into a nice dark roast coffee. Black as the midnight sky on a moonless night.
