    Hammer strength vs pin machines.

Gym near me is the only place in my city with the hammer strength machines so they market them as a selling point. Are they superior to the pin and stack machines?

I’ve always felt that they have a more natural range of motion compared to the pin loaded machines that have been in my gyms.

Still don’t really use them though

they've always felt better but who nose for sure.

It also depends on the pin machine equipment, some are really chit and feel like chit, and some feel significantly better

They have the goat range of motion as far as machines go , always feel the exercise better on hammer strength machines as opposed to normal ones .

when I used to go to LA fitness, they had both styles of machines. Always liked the hammer strength ones. Depending on how busy gym is, sometimes is annoying to find the plates you need, but otherwise great machines

I think they are. more variation of movements can be used since they usually have more room to shift how you are sitting/standing

like others said ROM. but its not like u wont make gains if you don't have those machines lol

Hammer Strength also makes a whole line (or at least they used to) of pin and stack machines too.

I am not a huge fan of all the highly leveraged plate loaded machines made by any company these days. They're everywhere.

It's effing stupid to have 12 plates on a shoulder press machine or 4-6 plates on a bicep curl machine. It's pure ego lifting and requires gyms to buy more 45 lb plates for no reason.

The only HS machine I used regularly was the seated ISO Row; I just really liked the movement but it's annoying because of the leverage I needed 6 plates per side to get a good workout, and that's just stupid carrying all those plates over and putting them back afterwards.

I personally prefer free weights to machines. Leveraged machines are a gimmick, IMHO.

They have lots of free weights, cybex machines too. Wanted to try an Arthur Jones style of training with negative reps and slow reps so these machines look good.

Depends. Some plate loaded can have a more efficient load profile depending on the exercise/design, some can have a load profile that makes it worse. Same goes for pin loaded if they have a cam instead of just a pulley system

Nautilus plate loaded machines are more of an example of plate loaded done right

I didn't say me, and I also alluded to other manufacturers that took the Hammer Strength idea and went full potato with it.

One of my gyms has a plate loaded shoulder press made by Atlantis that I regularly see guys loading up with 4-6 plates per side and most of them I doubt could do 2 plates per side on a barbell.

The machine is so highly leveraged the plates barely move an inch or two against gravity.

There are better brands of machines but 99.99% of gyms aren't going to have them, most HS are great and I use them in every workout
